he kind of misses the point - his albums dont speak to me generally. i can relate and love the albums - but im not a teenager anymore - so i dont listen to the smiths in the same way i use too, because i have grown up - SO HAS MORRISSEY>

Very very odd review.

It's surely possible to be concerned about endowments AND have an inner life?

You mean people outgrow Smiths songs? They still speak to ME....should I be worried about myself? I still feel like I'm 16 inside. Does that ever end? Am I just very immature?

I found the review odd because the reviewer seemed to be reviewing Morrissey's lifestyle as much as the songs.

i never worded it quite right.

That Reviewer(Rhodri)seemed to really like the album, but gave it an average mark because Morrissey didn't personally strike a chord with him as much anymore. Changing the titles to "Mortgages Are Not The World" or "You Know I Couldn't Last In A Bedsit", would have got him an extra star then, what a pillock.
this country.....

That isn't the best choice of picture neither, its far too "all creatures great and small".

haha i think this whinging git should return to bed, i missed pop world too.....but that bloke presenter is a sackless cock anyway.

cheers all, Kes uncovered.

I actually gave it 4 stars; The Observer changed it to 3. Some things you can't control...

I find that rather shocking that your editors would change your star ratings.
What the f***'s up with that? Is that common practice with newspapers????

I suppose I'll make sure to only pay attention to the texts of reviews in the future.

As for the text of your review, how come you think that because Morrissey had whatever lifestyle he had in a Tv documentary that that means he can't sincerely song lines such as "I'm slipping below the water line"? Isn't that kind of a universal feeling people have sometimes? I don't think a person escapes such feelings by having plasma television sets and hot sports cars.

I haven't heard the album yet, so I can't comment on it. I'm absolutely LOVING two of the three b-sides though!! (Munich Air Distastor, however, might go down as my least fave Morrissey track of all time. Not because it's "bad", but it just seems like a throw-away.)

It was just an example... I think my point that his new song lyrics still, after over 20 years, still resonate particularly profoundly with disaffected teens is a relevant one. If you don't think so, well, each to their own.

I did like the record.

I don't understand why the observer changed to 3 stars? what does it mean?

Who knows. Editorial decision. Maybe they liked it less than I did.

In the grand scheme of things, it's not too important, I don't think!
