I’m surprised and a little disgusted at the high scores heaved at Who Will Protect Us. Impossible to fathom.

hear hear ! Musically not bad at all, but the repeated lyric is just too much for this one.


Which makes me wonder again. how are people judging these co-writes? Just the music apart from the vocal? I just don’t know.

I'd put Alain Whyte's Vauxhall songs up against Boorer's any day of the week though. I Am Hated For Loving and Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself? move me a lot more than the Boz tracks.

It'll be an interesting comparison to make, when we've finished scoring all co-writes, to see just how outstanding Whyte's songs are, or aren't, when measured against other co-writes...there seems to be a lot of admiration for AW's work, but so far, the scores aren't reflective of that...but still early days. In the previous poll, Boz's songs scored higher than Alain's on average. However, there have been quite a lot of new Boz songs since then which may push his score up or down.
I've always said that the very best Alain songs are up there with the best compositions Morrissey's had to work with. But unfortunately, he also churned out a large amount of indie filler. Think of a mediocre solo song and it's nearly always a Morrissey/Whyte composition (or Morrissey/Tobias until Jesse upped his song-writing game on the more recent stuff).
