I would pay money to hear him just talk and tell jokes on stage. He was funny and thankfully in this theater the sound was so good you can understand what he is saying. Also I loved the shoegazey sound of the band.
 
No one really talks about Jack Kerouac in Massachusetts, it's more an over the border thing in NH, there's a small home that belonged to his grandparents where he used to spend summers and people point it out a lot. Lowell, where he grew up, is an awful place now.
 
Just got home from the show. So many different things racing through my mind. Where to start?

Morrissey was incredible tonight. His voice sounded better and stronger than Newark, and he was pretty chatty. The energy was great and Moz was in fine form. Hearing Oblivion again was a pleasant surprise. When I first heard it live in Vegas, the song hits you like a ton of bricks. I think it's one of his strongest songs in recent years and a total tour de force. So thrilled Morrissey included it back into the set.

I'm sure videos will be posted of this, but Morrissey made a comment midway through the set about "idiot culture". I'm summarizing but it went along the lines of "Idiot culture in politics, idiot culture in sports, and idiot culture in music. But there is no longer a music industry. Rest In Peace."

I felt like the idiot culture comment was pretty astute to the crowd tonight at the show. Maybe it was the people I was around (I was in the lower pit orchestra) but the amount of f***ing idiots near me was jarring. I don't get why someone would go see Morrissey to get completely shitfaced and just keep yelling out "I Love You Dad!", "Morrissey PLEASE!", "Johnny Marr! Yes Johnny! Talk to him!", "Go Johnny Go!", and just shrieking out other nonsensical noise. Then these same fools were clapping and cheering during Oblivion and I basically wanted to hammer punch those goons.

I should also note that the venue was pretty filled up. Orchestra was jam packed, second balcony looked pretty filled, along with the third balcony. No idea about the fourth tier balcony though. Couldn't see it from my vantage point. The line for the merch was pretty long and they sold out of the signed vinyl. I asked the people in the merch stand what the vinyl was and was told they had several copies of Best of signed but they all went well before the show started. No signed versions of the Queen Is Dead for those wondering.


During Sweet And Tender Hooligan the Met had station their own security on the sides and they were joining in with Moz's own security. It looked a little awkward and they certainly seemed pretty heavy handed. Regardless there was quite a number of successful invasions and the one guy who had three people pulling him away, I thought it was brilliant that Moz went over to give him a shake. Man was determined.

Random side note, but also while leaving I saw two women in the back who were standing stone face with both of their thumbs down shortly after Hooligan. No idea what the hell was going on there, but it was pretty weird.


Overall it was a great gig by Morrisey and the guys. Band sounded great and Morrissey's voice sounded strong and excellent. It's always a great feeling when Moz plays my home city and the shows always feel a little more special, just kind of wish the crowd was a little better and didn't have all those stupid drunkards.

Maybe the two disapproving women were friends of the stage invader who got shuffled out of the venue during Hooligan.

Certainly a possibility, I didn't think of that. Usually there's such jubilation from people right after a gig but both of them just looked so unhappy and with both of them extending their arms with the thumbs down, it was just really out there. So out there that I had to mention it in my show recap.
 
tonight was absolutely solid. peta was even onsite with a table in the lobby.

he looked good - it was nice to see him come out in a button down without a blazer. those button downs are very flattering on him. it was also nice to see him come out in the i am an animal t-shirt for the encore - connecting some of those bonkers dots from njpac's hsin.

the sound was even better. he sounded great. the band sounded great. this band (referred to as "five bawdy boys of song" tonight - ha) does such a nice job together. it's a very cohesive presence this band. it really comes across.

he had a little speech about idiot culture taking over the world which was the lengthiest dialogue we got from him tonight. saying, "idiot culture has taken over politics, sport, and i'd say music, but there is no music industry, there is no music scene now. may it rest in peace. it's gone, it's gone. but if you feel crushed by idiot culture on television commercials, please remember in your alone-ness, you are not alone. and one day, maybe in about a thousand years, common sense will return."

another entertaining moment came when he was introducing giac by saying "as one or two of you know in the 1980s, i was the lead singer in a band called blodwyn pig and we released a song which sold very well, and got very high in the charts, and contrary to what some of you think, nobody, nobody would play it on the radio. how things haven't changed." where does he come up with this stuff? haha

"i live in oblivion" was straight up phenomenal. fight me on it. idc

after doing band intros, he came to himself and said "i shall remain nameless in order to protect the guilty."

he ended ppplmgwiw on his knees in a very moving rendition tonight.

the encore was particularly entertaining with some successful hugs and even a kiss. security appeared to be handling everyone evenhandedly.

it was a really good crowd tonight, too. very happy and grateful to have been a part of it.
