Pete Townshend: “I said no to producing Morrissey’s album” (Q350 Preview) - Q Magazine
Morrissey asked Pete Townshend to produce an album for him, The Who man has told Q.
Speaking in our new issue,
Q350 out now, where he gives us 10 Commandments for a better life, the guitarist says he was approached by The Smiths singer to work on his solo albums.
“Morrissey asked me to produce albums for him after The Smiths, twice. I’ve got his notes, his cards. ‘Will you produce an album for me? Morrissey.’,” reveals Townshend.
However The Who leader said no, though admits if a different Smith had been in touch a collaboration might have been on the cards, explaining:
“I did say to [
The Who’s manager] Bill Curbishley, I really love The Smiths – if I could replace Johnny Marr in the picture there, we might get a really great album.”
