Overrated bands

Here is my own personal top 3 :-

1. Radiohead - A couple of decent albums. No more.
2. U2- What can I say that has not been said before on here.
3. Nirvana - I can only assume people that rate this band have never heard a Pixies album before.......

Which could probably bring me on to a list of underrated bands..

2. The Pastels
3. The Ramones.

Overrated

1. The White Stripes (Look great, but is that really all they can do?)
2. Primal Scream (Oh, just stop that blasted drone. Self-important crud.)
3. The Charlatans (How boring. No really, *how boring*?)

Underrated

1. The Go-Betweens (A whisker away from being bigger than... Duran Duran.)
2. Arab Strap (We know he can't sing. And that's part of it!)
3. Baby Bird (Everyone should be made to listen to the 'early' albums... beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.)

i agree with all these choices, although i make no secret of my love for U2. i know they're overrated, but i don't care. to that list i would add the following (and just because they make my list does not mean i hate them -- in fact, it hurts me to admit that some of these artists are overrated):

the beatles
the beachboys
oasis
coldplay
THE STROKES (HATE,HATE,HATE THEM)
the white stripes
jeff buckley (i know that this one is semi-blasphemous. i like jeff a lot, but he's not quite as good as some people would have me, personally, believe.)
weezer

sadly, i dunno the pastels, but i agree with you about the pixies. not too crazy about the ramones, but they definitely don't get the respect they deserve. my current favorite underrated band is bis. i just snatched up two more of their albums (both of which i'd already heard in part) used the other day. i was very pleased since i'd never even seen them used here! anyway, they won't change the world, but they're fun.

The Ramones are tied with The Smiths/Morrissey as the greatest ever!!!!

I dunno, I kinda think Belle & Sebastian is overrated. I like a couple of their songs though.

As for underrated...hmm...Cher? haha

T. Rex is underrated for sure.

Great choices. I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but are you aware Bis have just split ?. The played their farewell gig in Glasgow a few days ago.

Hardly. So he had crazy hair and played the guitar with his teeth. Wow. You might consider him a fretwork genius (although I'd disagree), but it leaves me cold.

He's the best rock 'n' roll guitarist to ever live, that's all.

I mean, you take Johnny Marr. Pretty great on the instrument. You take his talent and you multiply it by 1,000. Then you have Jimi.

I absolutely love the Beatles...WHEN JOHN LENNON IS SINGING.

John Lennon wasn't overrated at all.

Paul was.

I usually skip Paul's songs.

And now that I mention John, it reminds me that Yoko Ono is very underrated.
I have her box set. = )

2. Beck (prepares for flamebait)
3. Beastie boys (like Beck, American alternative darlings that bore the hell outta me)

Underrated:

1. Luke Haines and his various bands
2. Stephin Merritt and his various guises
3. Jon Spencer (although they're using him in some car ad, so that's something)
