Oscar Wilde

All my stuff is good.

> Which Oscar Wilde books should I buy? Thanks.

All Oscar Wilde's plays, poems, prose, and short stories are good.

But if you have not read any of his stuff, try.

Picture of Dorian Grey
The Importants of Being Ernest
and any of his short story books.
some of my favorites are The Remarkable Rocket, The Nightinggale and the Rose, and The Devoted Friend........

You should start reading his stuff as soon as possible, you can tell he had a big infulence on Steven P. Morrissey......

I'd stay away from his poems. They are terrible! the only good one is:
"all my life's buried here
heap earth upon it"
Sorry, I don't remember the name. Oh, and the "Ballad of Reading Gaol" is okay.
Read all of the plays certainly, and The Picture of Dorian Gray only if you must.

You know what book is so funny? the Hunchback of Notre Dame. It's hilarious!

Ohhh yes, specially if we´re talking about Mr Wilde.
I have one suggestion , which may even make you wet your dreams.....
TELENY, or the Reverse of the Medal
It has a magnifique story (of how did they find the book, wasn´t meant to be published)and it´s very funny

Unloveable, I know I´m.

the poem bosie was refering to i think is resquiescat about his sister that die when he was younger, morrissey also has a picture with this poem in his mouth that has "rush to danger" written on the bottom of it. i have to disagree with whoever said his poems were awful because i loved "To LL," "The Harlots House," "Fantaisies Decoratives," ect. i think you should read the selfish giant, the nightingale and the rose, the happy prince, hell just read as many of the short stories as possible and you have to read the importance of being earnest, the picture of dorian gray, and the ballad of reading goal because they are classic but i say you read-

"The House of Judgement"- i really loved this one

ever yours,
Salome

ps-salome was okay too

His fairy tales are good. Picture of Dorian Gray is good. His poems are bad, and that's why you never find them in anthologies. I don't like reading plays (they are meant to be watched.) Wilde was more of a stylist than a content man. Limp-wristed awistokwats ho ho ho lady whatsyourname how silly. Mr one-liner. He'd be one of those half-remembered guys like Richard Sheridan if it weren't for his splashy, sexy downfall.

Style versus Content? False dilemma

I am afraid this is far from true. You obviously haven't read his essays ("The Heart of Man Under Socialism" and "The Decay of Lying" are his most easily accessible ones): he was highly interested in style but did not sacrifise content, following the tradition of his two mentors at Oxford John Ruskin and Walter Pater.
