Morrissey Central "OPEN LETTER TO JOHNNY MARR." (January 25, 2022)

This is not a rant or an hysterical bombast. It is a polite and calmly measured request: Would you please stop mentioning my name in your interviews?

Would you please, instead, discuss your own career, your own unstoppable solo achievements and your own music?

If you can, would you please just leave me out of it?

The fact is: you don’t know me. You know nothing of my life, my intentions, my thoughts, my feelings. Yet you talk as if you were my personal psychiatrist with consistent and uninterrupted access to my instincts. We haven’t known each other for 35 years - which is many lifetimes ago. When we met you and I were not successful. We both helped each other become whatever it is we are today. Can you not just leave it at that? Must you persistently, year after year, decade after decade, blame me for everything … from the 2007 Solomon Islands tsunami to the dribble on your grandma’s chin ?

You found me inspirational enough to make music with me for 6 years. If I was, as you claim, such an eyesore monster, where exactly did this leave you? Kidnapped? Mute? Chained? Abducted by cross-eyed extraterrestrials? It was YOU who played guitar on ‘Golden Lights’ - not me.

Yes, we all know that the British press will print anything you say about me as long as it’s cruel and savage. But you’ve done all that. Move on. It’s as if you can’t uncross your own legs without mentioning me. Our period together was many lifetimes ago, and a lot of blood has streamed under the bridge since then. There comes a time when you must take responsibility for your own actions and your own career, with which I wish you good health to enjoy. Just stop using my name as click-bait. I have not ever attacked your solo work or your solo life, and I have openly applauded your genius during the days of ‘Louder than bombs’ and ‘Strangeways, here we come’, yet you have positioned yourself ever-ready as rent-a-quote whenever the press require an ugly slant on something I half-said during the last glacial period as the Colorado River began to carve out the Grand Canyon. Please stop. It is 2022, not 1982.

I never remember Morrissey saying anything nasty about Johnny's music. Which some could easily throw stones at. I love Johnny's stuff, but others could be mean. Also, Electronic's "Getting Away With It" was a slam on Morrissey. The only retort I remember is "Our Frank" "frankly vulgar red pull over". Morrissey could have made a diss track like he did with Mike Joyce, he did not. He has always stayed loyal to Marr....true to you!

What is it exactly that Johnny has said? I've seen the click bait headlines, perpetuated on this site - but Johnny didn't say that in his interview.

BAJATE DE LA NUBE MORRISSEY QLO FOME....

VIVA JOHNNY f***ING MARR!!! , AGRADECE QUE TU SUELDO TE LO PAGAN LAS CANCIONES QUE COMPUSO MARR CTM

I'm not clear on that either... is Moz mad because Johnny gets asked questions about The Smiths and he sometimes gets mentioned in the answer? Is he mad that Johnny said of all the people he worked with Morrissey's the only he doesn't get on with now? A true statement but maybe he took offense?

At this point in his career, Morrissey should be thankful anyone is talking about him at all. Let’s face it, it’ll be the Smiths he’ll be remembered for and not his solo work… well, certainly not anything he’s done in the past 20 years.
Well, what do you think Johnny Marr will be remembered for?

The Healers, or The Queen Is Dead?

The records he made with The Cribs, or Meat Is Murder?

I don’t think Johnny has said anything in particular, I think he’s just been interviewed more often over the past 5 or so years due to an increase in activity in public eye and thus has been asked about Moz more.
He hasn’t said anything too detrimental to Morrissey in my eyes, always a sense of polite detachment from him, if with a slight snark.
Morrissey here is doing similar, perhaps feeling slighted that his name keeps appearing alongside Marrs in his interviews despite them not working with one another for a very, very long time.
How often is Marr by name mentioned in a Moz interview etc.

Anyway, it seems Smiths is dead. Quite sad to see really.

Holy shit! Moz completely lost it!! Change the odds of a reunion from "a snowball's chance in hell" to "much less than a snowball's chance in hell"! :ROFLMAO:
Lost it? It's the best post he's written in eons. I would think even Johnny might find it funny.

Morrissey is right to raise this and to make his point. Johnny Marr has been sniping for decades and its always about how Morrissey was weird, Morrissey kept sacking people, etc etc. It was Marr who left the band. Moreover, Morrissey is praising Marr's solo career here, despite Marr being incapable of writing a memorable solo song.

Jesus. I don't find that annoying or funny or genius or unwarranted. I find it sad. Not pathetic sad. Just sad that Moz has to write it or feels that he has to write it. In many ways I don't blame him. Enough people attack him without Johnny jumping in too. Obviously Morrissey is feeling very hurt. I almost feel like we shouldn't have seen that. It's too private. All the constant negative press is getting to Moz. He's human and needs to be loved, just like everybody else does.
