Morrissey Central "OPEN LETTER TO JOHNNY MARR." (January 25, 2022)

This is not a rant or an hysterical bombast. It is a polite and calmly measured request: Would you please stop mentioning my name in your interviews?

Would you please, instead, discuss your own career, your own unstoppable solo achievements and your own music?

If you can, would you please just leave me out of it?

The fact is: you don’t know me. You know nothing of my life, my intentions, my thoughts, my feelings. Yet you talk as if you were my personal psychiatrist with consistent and uninterrupted access to my instincts. We haven’t known each other for 35 years - which is many lifetimes ago. When we met you and I were not successful. We both helped each other become whatever it is we are today. Can you not just leave it at that? Must you persistently, year after year, decade after decade, blame me for everything … from the 2007 Solomon Islands tsunami to the dribble on your grandma’s chin ?

You found me inspirational enough to make music with me for 6 years. If I was, as you claim, such an eyesore monster, where exactly did this leave you? Kidnapped? Mute? Chained? Abducted by cross-eyed extraterrestrials? It was YOU who played guitar on ‘Golden Lights’ - not me.

Yes, we all know that the British press will print anything you say about me as long as it’s cruel and savage. But you’ve done all that. Move on. It’s as if you can’t uncross your own legs without mentioning me. Our period together was many lifetimes ago, and a lot of blood has streamed under the bridge since then. There comes a time when you must take responsibility for your own actions and your own career, with which I wish you good health to enjoy. Just stop using my name as click-bait. I have not ever attacked your solo work or your solo life, and I have openly applauded your genius during the days of ‘Louder than bombs’ and ‘Strangeways, here we come’, yet you have positioned yourself ever-ready as rent-a-quote whenever the press require an ugly slant on something I half-said during the last glacial period as the Colorado River began to carve out the Grand Canyon. Please stop. It is 2022, not 1982.

"Marr has been reluctant to talk about the band's split since 1987" :ROFLMAO:

More like he hasn't shut up about it since 1987. He probably talks about it over breakfast with his wife and kids.
:)

RELUCTANT? who would write such pap?o_O
al -haslam is a mini LePew dork(n)

open letters since 1953 oi CRINGE:blushing::hammer:

Peace, love and Harmony?
Oh very nice
But maybe in the next world...yeah right

f***ing hell.... I spent Burns Night drinking whisky as well but watched a film

Incidentally, I find it piquant that Morrissey used the first 7" cover from a time, when The Smiths supposedly were considered a "homosexual" band. Beware of our romantic beginnings...

Morrissey's usually rich thinking and writing can be read in many different ways... His choice of the cover to illustrate the letter might have more to do with the fact of JM thinking (mistakenly) at that time that Hand in Glove lyrics was about their partnership; or even something else...

didn't take long for the Guardian people to get involved did it?

race baiter? 😂 Moz was in the corner of minorities way before guys like Hann did his woke course, sharing pencils with Frank Turner, at Eton.

if Marr is being spoken up for by wankers like him he's lost his way innitt?

Quite funny whenever there's a Morrissey headline he's all woe is me the media are evil they've misinterpreted me etc, but he's simply taking at face value whatever headlines they're coming up with for Marr. Not even a little "I know the media can twist these things but...".

Get a grip Morrissey. Like a heartbroken lover. As if he should tell someone what to say? Loser.
Can you read? You are so blinded by hate that you sound unintelligent. You are a classic example of someone who might need to get a life. You are a bigger fan of Morrissey's than most people on this site. You know why? Because you are obsessed with him. Never mind that it is a negative obsession, it's an obsession. I would invest in being friends with someone in the real world. You will feel better about yourself.

A classy letter addressed to a frustrated guitarist who could never live up to the lofty expectations that the music press held for him these many decades ago. Let's be honest here, Johnny's anger and derision isn't directed at Morrissey and Morrissey's political views, it's aimed squarely at Morrissey's success as a solo artist and well-earned iconic status. Johnny is in danger of becoming a sad music industry version of George Takei, always sniping at Morrissey's William Shatner, just to desperately cling to some piddling media attention. Hopefully he reads Morrissey's letter and takes it to heart.

very astute response(y)
Moz is the superstar that all the media riff raff is interested in, nobody
is interested in the 'brilliant career' with the cribs or that other dude who played hotels with the acoustic guitar. O interest in the unstoppable career now gathering steam in its 60 yr! what shanda!

ps dont pay any attention to Comrade "Oprah" McMuffin, LePew does not have Moz
phone number or new email. Nada zilch for the LePew:hammer:

I too started to say in his defense, but then realized Johnny could put prohibit questions regarding the smiths and Moz through his management but is clearly deciding not to.
Why should he? Questions as regards The Smiths will always come his way. Has he banned them from being asked? No. If he did, some here would call him a bottler for doing so. I for one am glad this has happened. The notion some still had of a reformation is as of now effectively dead.

Marr's measured response is proof that Morrissey is the lyricist of the two. I haven't seen such clumsy sentence structure from an adult in... ever. And I don't get where JM gets "fake news" from -- everything in Morrissey's initial letter was based in fact.

Well, for someone who wants to be pinned to everyone's bedroom wall, he's way off the popularity curve at the moment. Sure, he can always tour and draw a bigger worldwide audience on average than Johnny Marr but Morrissey's claim to fame is being wooed by major labels, excited to market his latest recordings worldwide. Isn't it?

cant tell what is or isnt:confused:
makes no sense.:blushing:

:hammer:

next LePew interview, probably tomorrow or the day after in some blog: Moz. Next one after that: Moz.

:hammer:

It's kind of funny that we are talking about Johnny's sly digs, because Craig Gannon said that is what caused him to quit the band, Johnny was very cruel to him when no one else could hear what he was saying. Other people thought Morrissey was to blame and even said to Johnny they thought Craig would be leaving soon (due to Morrissey) and Johnny said he felt Craig's "days were numbered", knowing what he had been doing to him. This is how he operates, he is passive aggressive and dishonest.
I never liked JM and his fake good guy persona he tries to push.
Everyone can see how desperate he is for attention
He left the Smiths without a second thought when he thought he was going towards greater success, he didn't cared about M feelings there exactly how he doesn't care for M feelings now.
Now that it is clear that Marr needed Morrissey more that Morrissey needed Marr he tried hard to get in touch and work with him again.
It didn't work so all is left is mentioning M in every interview knowing very well what he's doing (unless people is willing to believe he doesn't know that M name will be used as clickbait in the title)
