Sometimes it takes a Swede to remind us just how special Thanksgiving really is:

Today is the American Thanksgiving holiday, and some of us in other countries celebrate it as well. Why?

Because it is probably the only holiday that celebrates economic incentives and property rights.

Thanksgiving is really about how the Pilgrims in Plymouth Plantation, faced with starvation in 1623, changed the collective ownership to land into a system where families got to keep everything they produced themselves. The result was that the pilgrims learned new production, worked harder and increased productivity, and so ended hunger.

First off I think it was a travesty you were banned. I didn't see anything that justified a ban.

SoLow is like a Muslim country: No due process.

I'm not surprised of that attitude with Wal Mart shoppers. I hope they catch the people that trampled that guy and injured the other people. What was the big sale that 2000 people lined up for at 5am?
I haven't seen any great Black Friday buys. I'll probably go with GC's and I'll go to Michaels one night for all my decorations and crafts.
How are you doing with your holiday shopping?

I stick with Amazon.com. Lots of bargains without having to rub elbows with the masses.

I haven't started my holiday shopping yet, but I think my nephew might like some Hulk Smash Hands. I like this item especially because it lacks any educational value whatsoever. Should I get him the Hulk mask and punching bag to go with it? Oh, and have you seen those remote controlled cars that drive on walls and ceilings? Righteous! I saw them demonstrated on Fox & Friends on the Fox News Network this weekend.

In general,from my experience,it would seem it does.
This wasn't always so,Theo. Things changed after the response to 9/11.
You might not like this fact but it happened.
I've noticed a HUGE change in peoples' opinions on the USA over the last few years and not for the better.
People who had little or no dislike for the USA a few years ago,do now.
Why do you think this is?

I think whatever you're noticing has more to do with the fact that America became the (temporary) lone Superpower after the collapse of the USSR. We happen to be the nicest superpower the world has ever seen, though.

I was talking through my own personal experience of travel,Theo. IN GENERAL,yes,I have found people in Muslim countries better informed about world events than Americans.

"Better informed" = In more agreement with YOU. So, all I can gather from this is that your "worldview" is closer to the worldview of people in Islamic countries than people in the West. This is sometihng I should admire about you?

Are you also saying that Muslim countries have no judicial system?
Yes,i disagree wholeheartedly with ANY form of execution.Women aren't
stoned to death for "no reason at all",they may not be reasons you or i agree with,but there are reasons.

Notice how even though you are absolutely against executions in any and every case, you still manage to make excuses for executions in the Muslim world. Why is this? Why do you seem to be a spin-doctor for totalitarian Islamic regimes and a smear-artist on Western Democracies, most especially the USA?

Very disturbing.

I love how you go out of your way to say stonings are done "for a reason" and not "on a whim". Some of those Muslim countries will blame a woman for being raped, because she was looking like a "Western whore". Do you know how barbaric stoning is?

Why do you enjoy visiting freaky countries? You know, I've been to Mexico and I don't even feel comfortable there, because my dad has told how he had to, as a Marine, bribe officials to get other Marines out of Mexican jails. Why not just stick with the decent countries that deserve tourist support?

Sorry if I'm not an expert on Zanzibar and don't plan on vacationing there any time soon. You can have Zanizibar to yourself. Enjoy. No doubt it's one of the many places on earth that the British and/or the Germans or other Europeans f***ed around with. But, happily, it's not one of the many places the British or Germans or other Europeans f***ed around with that America has to clean up (as far as I know), so that's cool.

I guess I'm the only one who found it odd that her relationship with her mother was so poor that she had no idea what her mom's travel plans were or how to reach her. Yeah, I'm sure the first place I'd turn if I thought my mom was in the middle of a terrorist attack would be SoLow. She didn't even know what city her mom was in. I guess I wasn't supposed to notice that.

The whole thing seemed like a bunch of needless drama from the start. Very fishy, if you ask me.

I found the whole thread fishy from the start, I must confess. Perhaps because I have a better relationship with my family, though, I was misguided in that. If everything was on the up and up, I'd hope that Sista would reflect on things and see how her views on the Global War on Terrorism won't enable her to sit on the sidelines as the Islamists wage their war on the West.

They just don't know how to chill.

This thread was originally a part of the "attackss on india" thread. Muslims boated into Mumbai, India, after hijacking a ship and chopping off some heads. They went into Mumbai and mass-murdered 200-300 people. Not sure what the final death count was. Their victims were horribly tortured as well as murdered. The Islamic world is mostly silent in the wake of this atrocity done in their name.
