To be honest, I dislike new layout of general discussion because actual posts are smaller than other sections.

I hope the right handside index of most replied and ad won't be shown.

The layout is a little different for articles. Not much has changed on that end except the replies format are no longer 'simple' - they include sig and larger avatar. Also, if you view the end of the thread, it will auto-refresh if something is posted and is properly formatted now.
