New Essay On Richey Edwards.

'Die in the Summertime' is my favourite Manics song. But there are times when it is hard to listen to.
Thinking too much. Thinking too deeply. That way madness lies. The only antidote to it all - laughter. Ultimately Richey forgot that one fact of life. Our only salvation is our sense of humour.
I love The Dead Kennedys. For that very same reason.

I agree 100%. My favourite Manics song, too, which is not necessarily a good thing. Eerie, beautiful, horrible, tragic, oddly pure...unique. And originality is really what you want from a work of art. But not at that high a cost. Though he clearly had a decent sense of humour, and you can hear it on Journal For Plague Lovers. Shrug.

I like to think he just developed some self-awareness, quickly tired of being an arsehole and disappeared so he could return to being a normal person with a normal life. If that didn't happen, I'm pleased that he's dead.
