File this under the Better-Late-than-Never category.

In the April 13 issue of People magazine, the Smiths, who were never mentioned in People magazine in their time, incredibly have made no. 7 in their Top 10 Artists of the 80s.

The magazine points out that most of these artist listed, including Morrissey, are still making music. You don't say.

Adorable photo of REM. :)

wow, wouldve never expected them to make it in a top 10 list with all those mainstream people. i guess that's cool. surprised Prince is above MJ though.

Oh, Robby. How could you hate People?

How else could one know what's hot and what's not?
Who lost weight and who's ass got bigger?
Who looks bad without makeup and who got a new tattoo?

My thoughts exactly. I mean, how do you jump from Whitney Houston to U2 to The Smiths?

I wonder what sparked that placement!

Impressive !
But if he'd made 'The People's Friend' magazine's Top 10 80s pretty knits list, that would have been something...

It's cool, but I'm surprised Duran Duran and Depeche Mode didn't make it to the top 10.

People published a flattering one-page profile of The Smiths back in 1984 or 1985.
