Most underrated songs?

:)This thread may have been done before, but what do you guys think are the most underrated Smiths/Morrissey songs (ie not the ones that everyone particularly raves about but that you still really like)?
Mine:

Smiths: Reel Around the Fountain, Nowhere Fast (amazing lyrics), Barbarism Begins At Home, A Rush and A Push and the Land is Ours (an acquired taste but really interesting, and Moz's vocals are great here)... and many more besides :)

Solo Moz: Ouija Board, Ouija Board (very very sad song imho), Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself, Bengali in Platforms (too catchy for words), I Don't Mind if You Forget Me, I Like You etc...haven't included any YOR tracks on here because the album hasn't really been out long enough to say yet which are underrated.

What do you think?
Peace out :) (sorry, I say that WAY too much on these boards lol)

Those two don't get mentioned nearly as often as they should... Neither does Well I Wonder, possibly the most beautifully sad thing in the world.

You've Got Everything Now, I Don't Owe You Anything and Wonderful Woman are easily equal best with other early Smiths songs...

Mute Witness is overlooked, probably because it's on Kill Uncle...

So are nearly all B-sides from recent years (some of his best ever - when he was still bothering to have them that is :p)

And of course, the two that get talked about how underrated they are more than how great they are: ALL OF SOUTHPAW AND MALADJUSTED :D

below are the worst Moz/Smiths songs of all time (pre YOR at least).
came 200-234 in the great poll of 2007.

I always thought The Public Image was a wistfully sad song with a lovely Boz melody. It's not a major track but part of Morrissey's cache of songs that reflect on his mythology before it's even over...

Also never understood fans hating on All The Lazy Dykes. Thematically and sonically it wouldn't be out of place on Vauxhall. The lyrical imagery is fantastic. I think it was the blunt title that turned people off (?)

To the original poster, there's no way Why don't You is underrated -- it's roundly considered a beautiful song from (arguably) Morrissey's greatest solo offering.

Really? Ohhhh I see :D I haven't been a fan for as long as most people so I haven't had as much chance to see mentions of this wonderful song not just in fandom, but in general, as most people. :) Just hadn't really seen it praised as much as some of the others yet. :D

yes i am with you on this! :thumb:

No problem -- you have all these things to discover as a recent fan.

But yeah, I can't recall ever hearing a bad word about this song, ever. I think it's a key reason many considered Vauxhall to be equal to Morrissey's work with The Smiths, as well as being one of Alain's best compositions.

Interesting that a lot of the ones around the bottom are his more 'political' ones. As well as being mostly b-sides, do you think maybe these songs tend not to be as relevant to fans in different countries - the UK/US split on here might account for some of them...

Also, I forgot to make The Slum Mums bold last time! That is one of the best songs in the world!!

Being b-sides shouldn't make a difference. Tons of b-sides in the upper reaches of the chart. When it comes to politics, sadly, I don't think Morrissey is very clued up. He comes out with some pretty clumsy and simplistic stuff, so I reckon that's probably more likely to be the reason why they fare quite badly...

Woooah....what a statement,I think he's well clued up and more than he's given credit,he's ahead of the game...the politico's need to do some catching up.

no way mate. Moz is a total lightweight, politically.
you ask him a serious question about a contemporary politician and he'll say how physically unattracive they are, or that they look like Larry Grayson.
his profound verdict on Bush and Blair was that they were 'egotistical dictators'. cheers!
the mess he's got himself in with the racism accusations is largely because he doesn't understand the link between racism and immigration.
he's a multi-millionaire pop star who professes to side with the poor and the needy, but moans about having to pay so much tax, completely failing to see the connection between the two issues.
his 'God Bless Israel' comment showed how clueless he was about Middle Eastern politics. when McCartney played there weeks later, he showed much much greater sensitivity and awareness.
Moz is a genius when it comes to talking about music, people, relationships, family life, growing up, etc but I maintain that he's extremely naive when it comes to the wider political world...

"Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself" is one of Morrissey's best songs, yet hardly anyone has ever heard it.

I find they best way to describe something is by using the least ammount of words but the most effective one's,and he seems to do this very well with the aforementioned people. He's usually asked in interviews,so rather than go into a long winded speech on why either is why he describes them it's better to be blunt it makes you question why he's saying that, and everytime I've done that I see where he is coming from.

well I disagree entirely,The mess who got who into? The Immigration is a burning political Issue all over,it's others who take it into the realms of racism, not him.He can't be at fault for misinterpretation can he?
he was asked a question on whether England is different to when it was when he was young, and obviously it is,dilution of one's culture is a touchy subject which needs to be dealt with, obviously most UK politicians dont mind their culture disintegrating and seem out of touch with it's electorate...hence the rise of the BNP.The only one's at fault for that are the politicos.

As far as Israel goes,he has fans there and sometimes it's better to put politics aside for happiness and peace albeit a break from the paranoid hell they also live in,the people are manipulated by fear from most politicos Israel included...and it's the people who are his fans...anyway he decides where and what to play and no one will dictate, so it's two fingers to the lot and the people come before the politics if that's what he chooses,Canada is obviously one he feels should be different,it doesn't surprise me as Israel is always getting boycotted by various Musicians, maybe Canada's due a kick in the arse? I dunno...[/QUO

I feel this is an interesting discussion but not relevent to the thread. will start a new one.
so, everyone else, continue with your under-rated songs please for this thread!

It's hard to know what to class as 'underrated', but using the poll as a basis:
Ammuntition
Black-Eyed Susan
The Public Image
Don't Make Fun Of Daddy's Voice
All The Lazy Dykes
Tony The Pony
Dagenham Dave
Smiths-wise, I'll say Jeane, because I think it has some of Morrissey's absolute best lyrics.
