Morrissey's next cover version (what should it be?)

I think Morrissey should cover Edwyn Collin's 'Coffee Table Song' (From 'Hope and Despair' 1989).

Not only would it connect the two most important figures in the UK independent music scene history for the first time, it's also the perfect song (especially the lyric) for Moz to sing.

Coffee Table Song

What is you're number?
My number is zero
And what is you're colour?
My colour is blue
What is you're secret?
Why that would be telling
Well what is you're problem?
My problem is you

I'll turn my back on it all
I'll stand and I'll face
My living room wall
Well that's really something

What is you're star sign?
You've got to be joking!
Well what is the answer?
I wish I knew
What is the time?
It's time I was leaving
Why what is you're problem?
My problem is you

I'll turn my back on it all
I'll stand and I'll face
My living room wall
Well that's really something

Tell me something that I don't know
Make it brief to the point, like a fatal blow
Since time out of mind, I have loved you so
There's a place we could both go
I would swim the seven seas
I would crawl upon my knees
Just to get there
I would swim the seven seas
I would crawl upon my knees
Just to get there, somewhere out there
Like a fatal blow, like an open sore
Like a heart that's torn in two
Now that's really something.

Oooh... cool song. Lyrically it's perfect for him. I'm going to go find that and download it.

Call me crazy, but I would love to hear Moz and Kristeen cover Iggy Pop and Kate Pierson's Candy, from about 1990. I love that song.

Thanks for the thread link Kewpie. This is always a fun discussion to have!

I think he should do Gimme More by Britney Spears so I can hear him say, "It's Britney, Bitch."

anyone got a copy of the Edwyn Collins Song? Not My Album Of His Would Be Nice :)

This is a very difficult question to answer. It's even difficult to think about. I'd love to hear him sing Solitary Man, but it doesn't seem appropriate now. Perhaps it could transition into Sea of Love, but Chan Marshall really took the cake on covering that one. I'd also love to hear him do In the Pines, folksy tunes with a sort of mariachi twist perhaps. Of course, another great would be You And Whose Army (secret dream), but maybe the song is too new for a Morrissey cover. I could talk for days about this, really.

The answer is obvious:

Johnny Thunders - You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory

download it here: http://www.divshare.com/download/1936195-49a

It doesn't pay to try,
All the smart boys know why,
It doesn't mean I didn't try,
I just never know why.
Feel so cold and all alone,
Cause baby, you're not at home.
And when I'm home
Big deal, I'm still alone.

Feel so restless, I am,
Beat my head against a pole
Try to knock some sense,
down in my bones.
And even though they don't show,
The scars aren't so old
And when they go,
They let you know

You can't put your arms around a memory
You can't put your arms around a memory
You can't put your arms around a memory
Don't try, don't try

You're just a bastard kid,
And you got no name
Cause you're living with me,
We're one and the same

And even though they dont show,
They scars aren't so old
And when they go,
They let you know

You can't put your arms around a memory
You can't put your arms around a memory
You can't put your arms around a memory
Don't try, don't try

You can't put your arms around a memory
You can't put your arms around a memory
You can't put your arms around a memory
Don't try, don't try

how about the Barney the dinosaur song "I LOve You, You Love Me".. or King Missiles "Detachable Penis"? :D:D wouldnt that be just beautiful?

I just love That's Entertainment. One of my fave songs sung by my fave singer, so I nominate Down In The Tube Station At Midnight. I can just see Morrissey singing "they smelt of pubs, and Wormwood Scrubs"!
