MUSIC legend Morrissey has already helped Salford Lads Club by donating £20,000.
Now he has changed the lyrics of one of his songs to give the Ordsall club a name-check.
The music legend made the cash gift after hearing a bid to give the listed Edwardian building a £1m upgrade had suffered a massive setback when thieves climbed scaff- olding to take lead from the roof.
During a concert in Dublin at the weekend he was singing The Smiths song Vicar in a Tutu.
It includes the opening line "I was minding my business, lifting some lead off the roof of the Holy Name Church".
The church he mentions is a striking building on Oxford Road, Manchester, and is actually called the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus.
But on stage in Ireland the star started the song by singing "I was minding my business, lifting some lead off Salford Lads Club".
The clip of him singing the Salford Lads Club version has appeared on the video sharing website You Tube.
It was sent to Leslie Holmes, manager of the restoration project for the club by a Smiths fan in Glasgow.
He said: "Fans travel from all over the world to visit Salford Lads' Club and we were delighted with Morrissey's support.
"To give us a mention in a song in the way he did is very clever and won't do us any harm either."
The club became a mecca for devoted fans of the singer when it featured in a photograph used inside the sleeve of album The Queen Is Dead.
The red-brick club in St Ignatius Walk is used by about 200 members - girls and boys - and is one of the few original lads' clubs still standing in England.
