Morrissey & Smiths Photographic Exhibition in Bedford (Oct. 26 - Nov. 29)

Rock City Art in Bedford is pleased to announce the launch of a career spanning photographic exhibition of The Smiths & Morrissey on October 26th.

The show will feature well known classic images, such as Stephen Wright’s shot of the band outside the Salford Lads Club on the outskirts of Manchester that featured on the sleeve of ‘The Queen Is Dead’, along side more obscure lesser known shots such as Phil Dent’s shot of Morrissey and Pete Burns from the Smiths gig at the Royal Albert Hall in April 1985.

As a taster for the up-coming exhibition we will be featuring the well known image of Morrissey holding the Union Jack flag shot by Mark Allan which was later printed on the cover of NME, contrasting portraits of the band shot by Paul Slattery, solo shots from Peter Anderson and more recent shots of Morrissey taken by Pieter M. Van Hattem.

If you'd like to attend the opening night launch or view the collection either e-mail us at [email protected] or visit the website www.rockcityart.com

Looks like some excellent photos to be shown.
Not sure about the exhibition poster image though, much less the invite image ~

Kenickie from Grease? Seriously?
Just because Morrissey occasionally put a couple of rockers/greasers on The Smiths artwork doesn't mean any old quiff will do...

And who are you Joe????
I quite like it. Bare in mind Morrissey himself hasn't chosen the picture, but I think it quite fits Grease is the word....

Joe is bang on actually.

That totally sucks.

Also Rock City art, your website is awful.

The Rock City Art Gallery was founded by leading UK music photographer Andy Willsher. The idea evolved from the phenomenally successful Six Shooters shows of 2010 which inspired us to create a gallery for photographers run by photographers. This October we are launching an exhibition specifically focused on Morrissey & The Smiths. Come and join us!

The exhibition takes place on the 26th October at Rock City Art, 26 Castle Lane, Bedford, MK40 3US. Have a look at both our website and Facebook page for more info:

Re: The Smiths and Morrissey Photography Exhibition

Nice images. they would look the part for a 12"vinyl album/single cover. Much better than the official cd single artwork. The cd size artwork probably wouldn't work withe these. Have you any info on where the photo shoot took place? The Diana Dors film poster suggests that possibly a scene from that film was shot there.

Photo session took place at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club.

Thanks Kewpie. Any idea what the Diana Dors connection is ?

Re: The Smiths and Morrissey Photography Exhibition

I have no idea about Diana Dors connection.

She used to play clubs / cabaret all over the country, perhaps she played there at some point?

Re: The Smiths and Morrissey Photography Exhibition

There will be a connection somewhere that's for sure. Thanks.

Whatever...ya' uncle f**kers. It's not up to par with the usual Smiths' covers, but it fits as far as image and style go.
