Morrissey sells signed other peoples albums - NME, Louder Than War, Consequence of Sound

So he's now signing albums by other artists and sells them at 300 dollars apiece at his concerts.

I can't decide who we should be more worried about: Morrissey or the people who actually buy these.

You are endorsing him here. He is self destructing. Self destruction is an act of insanity. You can try to reason your way through all that's going on, but you cannot find reason in the unreasonable. If he has any fans left that care about him, shame on you all for attending shows, purchasing obviously, very wrong merchandise. For cheering on the many self destructing things he is doing. You are egging him on to career suicide.
Isn't that a Catch 22 that you described? Shame on fans for attending concerts and buying merch? That is promoting career suicide? Not going to concerts and not buying merch is also career suicide.

You are one tiresome Morrissey apologist c***. An artist that greatly influenced him? An artist he hated, an artist that he failed to offer a single word of condolence when he died. How many posts of dead celebs have popped up Central over the last few years? Tons! Where was Bowie’s mention?

"In spite of everything, I do respect David. I simply have to play Star Man or Drive-in Saturday and I will forgive him for anything. "
"He must surely be happy now. Music is eternity, and there he is, now, very much in it. I don’t imagine he wanted anything else from life."

They are not raising eyebrows for any reason, they say nothing, regardless if one agrees with Morrissey or not, he speaks his mind.
Morrissey: f*** The Guardian.

Nick Cave:

What about politics? What do you think of politicians and how does your art deal with that?
I think it’s not my place as a musician and an artist to put forward my political points of view within my songs. I don’t trust artists who use their creative impulses as a platform to push their particular political agendas down the necks of their audience. I find that gross, to be honest. I don’t want to go onstage and preach to people about things. I try to stay outside of that —which is not to say I don’t have my own political opinions.

With my music I have a completely different agenda. I’m really trying to work on a personal level with my audience as a way to help them move “upwards” in terms of personal inspiration. It’s important that I’m connecting with everybody in spite of their political affiliations.

The issue being thrown around here is what do artists do with their money (or is it what they really do with their money?), or dare I say, "Wealth?" Shameful, shameful if they did not earn it or, worse, worked for it?

This reminds me of those "save the people with MDA" Jerry Lewis telethons. Celebrities usually donate peanuts. A drop in the bucket for them while giving their pitch to the rest of us to 'donate.' The donation for the rest of us can cost an arm and a leg in comparison to their 'peanuts.' It's worse to venture into politics where money is continually and suspiciously moving around. What about those rich Democrats? No complaints there. The streets? You have the same problem. It is a two-way street and the issue is not going to stop there nor is it going away anytime soon.

What we have here is 'caveat emptor,' let the buyer beware. If no one buys them, great! I would even say, wise. I wouldn't. But to those that do or can, more power to them, I suppose. I doubt they are lemons. What is really being discussed and thrown around here is the issue of capitalism vs. socialism. To single out Morrissey is nothing other than hypocrisy. For Morrissey, this is peanuts. He doesn't need it. He is successful. He earned it. Morrissey is a step ahead of the rest anyway (as he often is).

The amount of proceeds received is the nature of business everywhere. The amount people are willing to pay or spend for concerts from any number of artists is actually a topic worth talking about. Everything is marketing. It's budgeting too. The more, the merrier. It all depends on who gets more and who is merrier, I suppose. 'When life gives us lemons, we make lemonade,' we are told. We pick our poison. All the proceeds coming or going out of or into Morrissey's pocket, nobody knows. At this stage in Morrissey's career, for Morrissey the person, it is not beneath him to give to a cause for abused children or to a cause for battered pets. I wouldn't expect anything less nor would I expect it of him. It is his prerogative. But the humanitarian in him would probably do so anyway. Now, this is a topic worth talking about.

That 300 for an originally signed album is far from overpriced.

Ffs a lot of vintage (I'm being kind) artists do a VIP meet and greet and a signed photo and record at that price.

Usually a photo of themselves btw not Lulu or the Fresh Pricne of Bel-Air.

Morrissey is hilarious. The man is a nutter.

I can’t believe this is a news story. I find it endearing that he’s selling these favorite records of his!
I do think it's endearing how he seems to like to share his favourite things with us, the way he does with the videos before his concerts and with his recommendations on his site. this need he seems to have to share these things with us is kinda sweet, and it's great, because he has good taste, so I know that if mozzer recommends something usually it's gonna be good. but to be charging $300 now for what amounts to a recommendation (as a fan in another thread called it) with his signature and to not have the money going to charity seems disappointingly money grubbing.

Of course, Morrissey sets the prices himself.

No one was upset about this on a Broadway then? Outrage culture boiling up. Where’s David Lammy when you need him.

That was before he doubled down on his support for a far-right party. Now people know he's a washed-up racist prick who won't stop at anything to fleece the last of his deluded disciples.

Selling his autograph on the records of other artists is really indefensible. Especially for three hundred f***ing dollars.

God knows what the younger version of Steve would make of it all. Silly old man?

You Skinny pseudonyms are boycotting all Moz activity so you wont even have to see the 300 dollar albums so why are you all worked up over Moz making some mega dough?:thumb: you want him to be miserable and poor like you pseuds. Not happening.:thumb:

Nobody has to buy and if they do buy, the are peeps who are GOING to a Moz show against Skinny strict instructions so they must be deserving of being fleeced?:lbf:

I really, really keep wishing that I would wake up and discover the last 2 or 3 years (of Morrissey) was a dream. Sadly, it’s not a dream and Morrissey is actually bat shit crazy.

Been reading The Guardian much? Incredible how such a big fan can stoop so low.

But what is the "proper price" for an LP signed by Morrissey? His own signed records seem to be going for at least 300 on eBay, give or take.
As Ket said, you're paying for the signature, not the record. Anyone who wants to buy Aladdin Sane can buy it off amazon for 30 dollars.
but that's decided by the market and by what fans are willing to pay. it's pretty tacky for an artist to declare "my signature is worth this much", and then start charging his fans for it. i mean, he could just sign them for free since it's really not such a laborious thing to do, but no. your logic is "it's okay to charge $300 because this is what they're selling for on ebay", and that's okay from a fan perspective, people will do crazy things out of fandom. but it becomes a bit unseemly when you consider that might be the artists logic as well. realistically speaking, a signature--from anyone--is not worth anything! I could EASILY plagiarize his signature. it only means something from a fans--or collectors--perspective (and usually I would think it's much more meaningful when there's a compelling story to go along with it, not just "I bought this from his merchandise stand, he had a bunch of them for sale"). therefore I don't think the artist should have any part in deciding what price his signature is worth to a fan. he's charging them for their ardency, basically (sine no one who isn't big fan would buy these). it seems a bit exploitative.

Do you think Morrissey set the price himself?

You’re missing my point. I’m not talking about what Brett or Cave does or does not do. I am saying again that
Morrissey is the only artist these days raising people’s eyebrows. Agree with him or not, he speaks his mind.

The only way Suede or Cave could raise eyebrows is if they released a great record then people would raise their eyebrows in surprise!

;)
