Morrissey interview in Vegan Logic

Morrissey: "The last thing security forces ever want is peaceful protest" - Vegan Logic
By Zülâl Kalkandelen on 14:28

Excerpts:

On the idea for the "Istanbul" video:

Yes, it was based on the opening scenes of “West Side Story” with the band and I actually dancing through the streets. Harvest just wouldn’t do it. It was the first snap in our relationship, mainly because they didn’t have any alternative ideas. I don’t mind objections if someone has a better idea. Ultimately the head of Harvest DID have an idea … which was “let’s get rid of Morrissey”… unfathomably silly."

On playing Istanbul:

"In December. It is a Sunday evening. I’ve always tried to get Istanbul Opera House, but it’s never available… or it doesn’t exist."

On his health:

"I don’t manage to remain very balanced! I’ve suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for several years, and I feel intensely melancholic every day..."

Wow, this is a GREAT interview! I wonder if it was done verbally or in writing. His replies are much longer and more in-depth than usual. His tone here is different, too—less anger, which means more clarity and breadth to the points he's trying to make.

Thanks for posting this, Anonymous!!

Can't wait to dig in. The link won't work on my work computer so I have to take turns glancing at my iPhone while working :)

"...it’s now entirely flipped back to the helpless little girl voice being the one we only ever hear on the radio..." = Lana del rey, etc, etc.

That is one long-winded interviewer. :squiffy:

I only skimmed it I gotta go to work. I thought Morrissey was happy, guess not.

He's 100% wrong about not voting. Not voting lets in well-drilled goons like UKIP.

She comes across very well, I think! She obviously put a lot of thought into what wanted to talk to him about, instead of just asking the same old predictable one-liner questions. I'm sure that's why his replies are so considered—it really reads as a conversation more than an interview. Great stuff...

Agreed. Just finished, though I kinda skimmed since I'm at work. It reminded me sorta of the type of interviews I love from The Big Takeover (my personal favorite music publication)

Fantastic interview. Thanks for sharing. Lately, Morrissey seems to favor pithy quips as his default technique when handling interviews, so these in-depth answers are a refreshing change and a joy to read.

I'm going to guess the interview was conducted via email correspondence, as Morrissey has grown increasingly weary of face-to-face interviews over the years and seldom does interviews in person. He could have done it over the phone, but I know he thinks it's more difficult for his words to be misconstrued or taken out of context if he puts them in writing.

Considering Morrissey has expressed support for UKIP in the past (and his views on excessive government overreach among other issues align with UKIP ideals) I don't think he'd consider that a bad thing. He'd probably consider it progress.

Supposing Morrissey is wrong about voting, he still has a point in that as long as the false left-right paradigm remains, the actual degree of significant change we can achieve and expect is pitifully minimal.

f***ing miserable c*** isn't he? Christ

I, for one, would be disappointed if he was all happy in an interview. He's real, and when most celebrities spout out how happy they are in interviews, he's a breath of fresh air.

If 90% didn't vote UKIP would still be lucky to win a seat. Even with their corporate backers they still can't get a look in. That alone should tell you how f***ed the system is.

Spoil your paper.

Sounds like Harvest was right to pooh-pooh his Istanbul video idea. West Side Story? Jesus.

Very good interview where I thought Morrissey explained his views quite well (whether you agree with them or not). It did not come across like the often nonsensical 'rants' on TTY.

... Harvest might have saved him from himself on this one.

"I’m not going to ask you anything about the Harvest drama because you already explained it perfectly. "

The interview then turns into a huge beating stick with witch he continually thumps Harvest Records, democratic society, voting, the United Kingdumb oh yes don't forget to (YAAAWWWWWWWN) thump the Royal family.
Basically the boring bastard interviewed himself in the mirror, either that or the person interviewing was handed the Qs prior to the interview.
Very Saville esque I thought.

I would actually pay to see Moz and Boz dancing in the street.
