Morrissey interview in the 'Legends' issue of 'Loaded' (Feb. 2013), out tomorrow

Nice bit of X-rate whataboutery there. At the moment we're discussing UKIP and the xenophobia, homophobia and racism of its members here. We're not drafting a dissertation on each one of the other parties. As for Farage and others saying that they're "racists", even Nick Griffin and the BNP say that. No-one but the most deranged neo-nazi extremist would openly and publicly call themselves a racist. So that kind of disclaimer is not particularly meaningful.

http://m.guardian.co.uk/politics/2013/jan/07/nigel-farage-party-eccentrics-ukip

From the horse's mouth. My point was all political parties have extremists in their ranks. The Mirror choose to expose those in UKIP to discredit them by pointing out 3 or 4 examples of hard right thinking within their membership, possibley aware that readers if their paper might be considering putting their X against UKIP's name on the ballot paper. People, even Mirror 'readers' are increasingly disenfranchised with the modern political system, the endemic corruption of it, forced legislation that directly effects them being created by unelected faceless bureaucrats in Brussels/ Strasbourg and the perpetual flood of immigration.

Which I personally think is a load of bollocks. It could also lead to minority extremist political parties becoming more attractive to voters. But some may argue that's a good thing as our current system has failed us (although you'd hope they would consider recent European history) and personally I don't think UKIP, as a political force are advocates of extremism. Unless isolationism is extremist? Maybe later on I'll look into links between them and the EDL and report back.

I'd put pins in my eyes before voting for them though

Culturally influential? Even if this were true (and I don't see any evidence that it is, beyond the trivial world of pop music), I'd have to ask: so what? When fans talk about their preferred pop idols as "artists" and their products as "art", aren't they just trying to dignify their ongoing sentimental attachment to something that they should've outgrown with the passing of adolescence?

You're almost certainly right about that, but the absence of popular criticism reflects only the depoliticisation of politics.

Can't disagree with either of your observations. At all.

But here we both are on a website dedicated to a pop star/ singer-songwriter! (see what I did then!)

Is pop music trivial though? Is it something we should grow out of? Is it worthy of intellectualisation, certainly when you consider pop stars who came from an art-school background?

But I must admit bus drivers do perform a more useful and important role in my life. They get me to work. And back again

The subjugation of women - their victimhood and their economic disadvantage - is, in large part, a consequence of the kind of gender stereotypes perpetuated by publications like Loaded, you f***ing dunce.

I'm not sure how you can "love" someone you don't even know.

Are you sure you're not fourteen?

You can love someone you don't even know; Have you ever heard of online relationships? I fell in love with my boyfriend before I ever even saw a picture of him, so that disproves that point, you rude c*** (uncle skinny says its ok to call you this). I also love Conor Oberst and a few other singers who've helped me out with their music.

Loaded, yeah, whatever I'm fighting bigger battles. Shouldn't women have the choice to pose in their undies if they like? Or wouldn't that be subjugation to stop them? See: not really an issue I'm bothered with, unlike being scared to walk down a dark alley at night.

As for the UKIP stuff, Morrissey must be further back in the closet than I thought. But guess what? I still love him. I'll always love him and I'm sorry you don't feel that way. But you won't change my mind by calling me names and being patronising.

'According to the ethos of capitalism, a person's position in the class structure reflects his/her importance to the functioning of society [...]. Each person's income is supposed to be a monetary quantification of their individual worth which, again, is supposedly determined by the contribution that they make to the life of the wider community. What contribution does Morrissey make to our world, though? He sings songs. Granted, he has to write the lyrics to them first, but even so, what he does is, he stands on a stage and he sings songs... ...for a living. He gets to travel the world, singing his songs to thousands of people who respond by hanging on his every word, telling him they love him and generally treating him like God. Back-breaking stuff.

Blasphemous though it is, I can think of a variety of professions more valuable than pop singers. Not only are they more valuable as people, but I reckon they probably work harder too. To take just a couple examples: the average qualified nurse is paid less than £30,000 per annum and a primary school teacher is on just slightly more. If a firefighter were to work for seven hundred years, s/he still wouldn't be able to accumulate £20 million. Now, I dunno about you, but as far as I'm concerned, in a competition between someone who, as part of their job description, saves people's lives - literally - and someone who makes commodified leisure products for the entertainment industry, I know which one I think "earns" their money.'

It's not morrissey's fault, though, is it? I'm sure he gives plentifully to animal charities. What do you want him to do, go live in a cardboard box?

Re: Article: Morrissey interview in the 'Legends' issue of 'Loaded' (Feb. 2013), out

It's not morrissey's fault, though, is it?

Not entirely to blame, obviously. Nevertheless, he's complicit in a state of affairs that pays him more money than, literally, 99% of the population, despite doing work of less value. So yes, he is certainly at fault.

I'm sure he gives plentifully to animal charities.

Good to see he has his priorities in order then.

What do you want him to do, go live in a cardboard box?

No, I want him to stop pretending that he's "concerned with social injustice" while at the same time sitting on top of a multi-million pound fortune and refusing to reside in the UK because (in part) he doesn't want to contribute his fair share to the social well-being of the country. It's kind of hypocritical.

I'll accept that you're infatuated with your own personal conception of what these people are like, but that isn't love. You'll be able to distinguish between these things when you're an adult.

Loaded, yeah, whatever I'm fighting bigger battles.

No, you're not. We all need a reason to feel okay about ourselves, though.

Shouldn't women have the choice to pose in their undies if they like? Or wouldn't that be subjugation to stop them? See: not really an issue I'm bothered with, unlike being scared to walk down a dark alley at night.

If some otherwise unemployable f***wit wants to whore herself in that way, then that is - and should continue to be - entirely her prerogative, but if you, and people like you, were more concerned with their inclination to do so, there might be fewer women who are "too scared to walk down a dark alley at night". (Incidentally, by ignoring the fact that most men would probably be too scared to walk down a dark alley at night kinda sustains the myth that women are lesser beings, unalterably vulnerable and helpless.)

UncleSkinny, Amy, the plethora of 'Anonymous' people, get a clue you sad liberal twats. Anybody with half a brain can see that Ukip aren't racists, and it's the left-wing media who are trying to drag them down. If you believe anything you read in a paper like the 'Mirror', then you truly are beyond help. It isn't an 'expose', it's the globalists trying to protect their necks. Ukip in power means they're out of a job.

If David Cameron or Ed Miliband are Prime Minister after the 2015 elections, then Britain is pretty much doomed. Ukip are the only party with the guts to implement the changes which need to be implemented. If the people of Britain don't like Nigel Farage in power, then he can always be voted out again, but at least he and his party will help to stabilise Britain in the short-term. It's what Britain needs to remain 'Britain', so try putting your own country first for a change instead of your hedonistic need for homosexual marriage.

If the open door immigration policy remains intact, and more and more Muslim people continue to pour in, and start to outnumber the British people in different towns and cities, well then you won't get your homosexual marriage anyway. Why? Because their religion forbids it, and Muslim people and their religious beliefs are a lot harder to argue against than someone like Nigel Farage, especially when they're in such large numbers. Better the devil you know and all that. Stop being naive, Miliband and Cameron are cowards, Ukip are the only party likely to bring real change, which is something which Britain is in dire need of at the moment.

Also, lay off LuvMozzy, she's the only one of you braindead idiots who's making any sense right now.

'whore herself'? Well now we're getting down to it, aren't we? Disgusting.

Men have been raping and attacking women for a good few thousand years before women posted in their undies for some teenager's magazine, do don't you dare f***ing blame women for MEN'S ACTIONS. Women ARE more vulnerable to attack, that's just a fact, as men are (generally) stronger. Or are you telling me men are getting raped on the same scale as women? Or that two men are dying a week at the hands of their partners? Why don't you grow up and live in the real world. Oh, I forgot, you're a MAN, you don't have to know the actual facts, you can just cast aspersions in your superior tone.

I'm an adult: I fell in love with someone I'd never met and have been with them for the past four years. I will love Morrissey until the day I die. Your spiteful little comments won't make one jot of difference.

I'm on this site because I'm a Morrissey fan? I could ask the same thing about the hoardes of supposed Morrissey fans who do nothing but rip into the man over everything he says and every choice he makes. Morrissey so-low and all that. It's not exclusive to Morrissey fans however, I've seen it happen on plenty of band websites over the years. People devote so much time to one artist or band, when the band begins to deviate slightly from what 'they' perceived them to be, they grow resentful and start posting abusive and derogatory messages about whichever band or musician it may be. Pathetic people with too much time on their hands.

I decided to say something on the whole Ukip debate, as idiots who allow themselves to be brainwashed by the left-wing media irritate me. If you actually took the time to read up on Ukip's policies, you'd see how sensible and reasonable they actually are, which is why papers like the 'Mirror' are running scared. Ukip are a threat and they know it. There's a reason why they swiftly overtook the Lib Dems as the third most popular party in Britain, seemingly overnight - and they'll continue to grow, despite certain sections of the media trying to sully their name with outright lies. Read up on them and draw your own conclusions, and stop allowing The Mirror, Guardian, and Tories to lead you around by the nose.

'whore herself'? Well now we're getting down to it, aren't we? Disgusting.

We are? To whore oneself means to compromise who/what you are, or sacrificing what you could be, for crude material gain; I'd say stripping off and exposing your body for strangers just to make money pretty much fits the bill.

Men have been raping and attacking women for a good few thousand years before women posted in their undies for some teenager's magazine, do don't you dare f***ing blame women for MEN'S ACTIONS.

I'll blame anybody who's blameworthy. Calm down, you're getting all emotional.

If women are more vulnerable to attack because of their comparative physical weakness and an inability to repel male aggressors, that might have something to do with their having been socialised into a culture - of which publications like Loaded are a central part - that requires them to be the physically weaker, "fairer" sex. Female vulnerability is not biologically determined.

Incidentally, I'm not sure why you're presuming that I'm male. Sounds to me like you're being sexist.

I'm an adult

Then try to act like it.

Patronising, sexist scumbag.

The only people facilitating sexism here are you and Morrissey.

I get that you're annoyed that I'm not posting under a username, but I'm not sure why you think I'm being "cowardly". After all, I am a man and, therefore, physically stronger than you. Go me!

No, they shouldn't. It's disgusting. Women should keep their shameful bodies to themselves. If Morrissey was a true feminist he'd demand that no woman should be allowed to leave the house without wearing a full body hijab.

Men, on the other hand, are allowed to be naked without shame, and sell nude standees of themselves at concerts.

Where were all the feminists protesting at that? Or were they too busy drooling?

As for the chap (lady?) who said that they've had enough of paying tax and that there's little point in paying tax... Just hope that :1) you never turn old and frail and in need of care; 2) you never get ill and in need of care and treatment; 3) you never collapse while doing your shopping ; 4) your house is never on fire; 5) you never lose your job or your business never goes bust; 6) you never lose the plot; 7) you're never the victim of a crime; 8) you're never in need of public transport. And the list goes on...Also, I know it pains, but replace the word "you" with "the people around you" such as friends and family.

To quote US Senator Elizabeth Warren:

<i>"There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own – nobody. ... You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for; you hired workers the rest of us paid to educate; you were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did. Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea. God bless – keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is, you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along."</i>

It'd be good if you registered. You seem like an interesting, intelligent poster ... I'm flipping through a book at the moment called "The Self-Made Myth" which looks at exactly the the points you raised above .
