Is being scraped for cancerous cells the same ad having cancer? My other half has to go for regular check-up due to her family history with the Big C which involves scraping....

Media are very irresponsible imho

Re: Apparenty it's cancer.

So now Morrissey's comment about scraping cancer cells is going to be blown up into "Morrissey has late stage or metastatic cancer" and "he's dying."

Repeated "scraping" sounds to me like he may have had some precancerous cells detected in a biopsy, and that biopsy has been repeated to monitor his condition. Perhaps he had a stage 0 (in situ) or stage 1 cancer, and they've caught it in time. Had he been diagnosed and treated for something major like esophageal cancer, his voice would already be compromised (as would his immune system) and he would not plan (or execute) a major tour.

It is distressing to read about any form of malignancy, but the fact that he's currently treading the boards (and singing quite well) means that he's been given a clean bill of health by his doctors. It takes a lot of stamina to tour the way he does (and it takes a functioning immune system). Given his past health problems, he would never attempt to tour again unless he got a medical OK to do so.

I do believe he wants to die on stage. However, he wouldn't have gotten insurance if he was dying, and he looks healthy.

Moz is an introverted loner. Dogs are extroverted social animals. Makes sense that he can't relate to dogs. He is a cat person.
I am an introverted loner. My dog is similar. I love dogs. And cats. And rats, bats.. He has often been pictured with dogs. He has a dog with tina, FYI. He has a cat AND a dog at his mothers. Stop assuming things.

Yes - legalities trump all. Let's assume that Morrissey had a close call, but he's doing alright now.

As for dying onstage: I do wonder. I watched the great drag/performance artist Ehtyl Eichelberger slowly die onstage. He just kept going, letting the world see what it is to gradually shuffle off this mortal coil. I was at one of his last performances many, many years ago, and the beauty and sadness of it haunts me to this day. I will never forget it; there's no greater gift that a performer can give to their audience.

CG and Jehne, please do not turn this into a thread about how great your minds are and how much you know about science and what not. Have a bit of respect for the fans that have just realised that their idol is suffering from what well may be life threatening. Also have in mind that several of us have had this ourselves or have loved one that have gone through it so I think many people these days know what it means and how serious it really is. Let us not make it worse or deny the seriousness of it and just accept it like it is as this came from the man himself.
This! You are both as bad as each other crystal and reality. It's always look at me I know more, you're smart, you're dumb. This is about Morrissey. Stop making it about me myself and I

Re: Article: Morrissey interview in El Mundo (Spain)

Most if not all of the therapies, invasive techniques and drugs Morrissey has been subjected to for his reported medical condition are only available to him (and everyone else) because they were first validated using laboratory animals. Given Morrissey's views on animal rights, including his 2007 statement that "(he) understands why so-called laboratory scientists are repaid with violence – it is because they deal in violence themselves and it's the only language they understand”, do we think that this man is nothing less than a towering hypocrite? Someone who chooses to avail himself of the fruits of medical research involving lab animals to save his own life while aspiring to deny those same benefits to others? He could have refused treatment - but he didn't.

This is old news, just read this:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbi...e-tour-Reports-death-greatly-understated.html

It is his throat and it is caused by reflux for smokers and those that drink alcohol or maybe even too much sweets as we know he loves that. He cancelled over this before and now he reveals it turned into cancer.
It's not just caused eating sweets and smoking. Stress can cause it, an type of bacteria can cause it, acidic foods such as tomatoes. Basically, there are many many causes. And it IS a precursor to various cancers. I should know ..I've had it for over 2 decades. And it can be scraped off. It's not just bone cancer that gets scraped.

Morrissey reveals he is being treated for cancer and has been hospitalised several times in last 18 months

Morrissey is being treated for cancer.

The former Smiths singer has been hospitalised on several occasions over the last 18 months and he has now revealed that doctors have also been dealing with cancerous tissue in his body.

Despite his diagnosis, the 55-year-old songwriter, whose first name is Stephen, insists he isn't afraid of death and accepts it is something that comes to us all.

'They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever. If I die, then I die. And if I don't, then I don't. Right now I feel good.
'I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that's what illness can do. I'm not going to worry about that, I'll rest when I'm dead.'

Morrissey's health issues have included a bleeding ulcer in early 2013, a double bout of pneumonia in March 2013, food poisoning in July 2013 and a respiratory infection in June 2014 which forced him to cancel his US tour.

The Irish Blood, English Heart singer also claimed he's at an age where he should have stopped making music and thinks he may retire from songwriting and performing once he has completed his first novel.

Morrissey - who was dropped by Harvest Records shortly after the release of his 10th studio album, 'World Peace is None of Your Business', in July - said:

'I'm at an age when one should no longer be making music. Many composers of classical music died at age 34. And I'm still here, and nobody knows what to do with me.

'The audience that I have is very young, which leads me to think that the songs of the Smiths, as with those of the Ramones, are more significant now than before ...

'My novel is coming along well, but it would be presumptuous of me to talk about something that is not finalised yet.

'It will probably be published next year and with luck I will be able to stop singing forever, which would make many people happy!'

I think you're correct and here's why:

"The reports of my death have been greatly understated. Once admitted to the William Beaumont Hospital at Royal Oak in Michigan, I received treatment for concussion, a bleeding ulcer, and Barrett's esophagus."

http://true-to-you.net/morrissey_news_130131_01

Patient's with Barrett's undergo regularly scheduled endoscopy with biopsy, i.e. "scraping", to check for cellular dysplasia, which is the presence of precancerous cells. If present, then more treatment is needed.

Morrissey is currently trending on Twitter in the UK, since the news was widely reported in the newspapers today. The way people are going on you'd think he was in extremis.

I think this is correct - we know Morrissey had Barrett's Esophagus and this can lead to cancer of the Esophagus (risk is slightly higher than for those without Barrett's). But it is early to go straight to "he is dying of cancer". This page has lots of useful info: http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/abo.../cancer-questions/what-is-barretts-oesophagus

I am certain he would not be embarking on a tour if he was about to have treatment for Esophagul Cancer- which is pretty major.

from that page:

The risk of oesophageal cancer

We know that Barrett's oesophagus can increase your risk of cancer of the oesophagus. Barrett’s oesophagus is most likely to be diagnosed in people who have a long history of burning indigestion. So it is important to see your doctor if you have had burning indigestion for a long time. But remember that only between 1 and 5 people in every 100 with Barrett's oesophagus (1 to 5%) will go on to develop oesophageal cancer.

If you have Barrett's oesophagus you will need to see your doctor regularly. You will also need to have regular examinations of the inside of your food pipe. These are called endoscopies. They don't prevent oesophageal cancer, but should pick it up early on when there is a better chance of successful treatment.

Regarding the Endoscopy: A doctor or specialist nurse can look down the endoscope and see if there are any growths or other abnormal looking areas. Through the endoscope, the doctor or nurse can also take samples (biopsies) of any abnormal looking tissues. Maybe this is what he meant by "scraping?"

Certainly worried for the old chap but i reckon he will be whinging and moaning for many years to come :)

Wow. So Moz gave them a flabby thigh with a few stretch marks and they squeezed it into a pair of yoga pants stretched so taut they look like nylons. I'm dizzy from reading the spin in this story.

Gregor Samsa

I straighten up, and my position is one of hope.
So what does it mean, this "scraping" business? What does scraping mean? Is he saying the he in fact has cancer and is being treated for it, or is the scraping just a precaution taken because of his earlier conditions? I woudl go for the latter.
