Morrissey interview in athinorama.gr (Greek)

Can I just take a moment to say how completely stupid it is to read re-re-translated interviews when you know the original content is stored in a laptop in a manpurse just a particular click away?

Please co-operate and 'play the game'. It's actually very funny. Morrissey is taking trolling to the next level as an Art Form. Even though he answered the questions in English, I'm sure he stipulates that only the foreign language translation is put online, thus forcing the 'fans' to feed it into Google Translate resulting in nonsense which cannot be reliably parsed. Thus, the Rumour Mill about all his pet topics such as his 'cancer' can be fed and whir away in the background.

He's taking the piss. Morrissey, I see you trollin'! But it is very, very funny.

If he isn't talking specifically about broad brush aspects of animal welfare he doesn't make sense in English either.

In political, social and sexual issues, he is invariably wrong at best, and often appallingly misinformed. I don't think he's a troll, I think he genuinely believes what he says, which although laudable in itself, makes him, in fact, a good old fashioned ignoramus.

As a vegan animal rights chap, I'm more concerned that his shock tactic MIM concert stunt is counter-productive as it's based on discredited charity marketing concepts used by the RSPCC and PETA: if you don't make people cry, they won't donate/convert to the cause. In fact, a lot of people seem to just switch off. At his shows people just check their emails/Twitter or chat when he shows gory footage about dairy cows and egg producing chickens. Of course, most of his band aren't vegan/veggie so there's a humorous sub-text to them 'doing what they're told' by playing along. What next. Will he have them all in PETA t-shirts when the 'f*** Harvest Records' stunt expires?

"Could it be that PETA’s publicity stunts are so extreme and so offensive that they create a backlash? Are their tactics so radical that they are actually counterproductive to what they are trying to achieve?"

Lots of people who eat animal products care passionately about animal welfare up to and including the animal's death. Humans have eaten animals and used their by-products for millenia. It's hard to see how random footage of the worst excesses of cruelty will change that fact.

Here's footage that shows pigs being sedated before being slaughtered and butchered for supermarkets, without any evidence of 'Nazi' cruelty. I disagree with eating pigs as they are beautiful and intelligent creatures but I doubt they are aware of their fate when they breath in the carbon dioxide gas and fall asleep forever.

There were 'cheese gougons' on the menu at the o2. Where does that come from? Dairy cows. What happens to them when they can no longer produce milk? What happens to male calves at birth? Morrissey showing Meat Is Murder footage whilst allowing Milk Is Murder cheese to be sold at the O2 seems to suggest he isn't vegan, just has a selective fetish/phobia about animal flesh and sadistic animal husbandry and abbatoir behaviour. Fair enough, but hardly consistent or logical.

Morrissey seems to just want to be shocking and outrageous whilst others seek to educate people in an array of choices rather than bludgeon them with Slaughter/Torture Porn. It's very shocking and causes a frisson in a concert but anyone walking past a burger van after his shows sees how most people ignore it.

TL; DR: Morrissey is using the excesses of animal abuse to troll his audience with gratuitious Torture/Slaughter pornographic images to 'liven up' his otherwise boring mid-concert lull.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I think it's perfectly obvious to all that what you are primarily is an attention-whore who is more concerned about endlessly posting your impenetrably verbose, self-admiring diatribes. If you seriously believe anyone reads them carefully and in detail, you are beyond deluded. What applies to JB also applies to you in equal measure: the spectacle of the same few people coming here every day trying to claim moral superiority over a pop star is the most utterly pathetic, irrelevant pointless exercise. Don't you have a family? Or indeed a life?

How do you know he isn't vegan? Are you sitting next to him while he eats? Perhaps the O2 said yes to meat free but no to vegan?

You and your attention-seeking trolling is so old. Perhaps a hobby would take up the all the spare time you have to write such boring posts.

People, stop responding to BrummieBoy's posts. As long as you react to him, he keeps coming back. I mean, this is really simple stuff: if you want him to go away, don't give him attention. Don't give him attention, and he will go away. It's not like he thinks that he's doing something important. He's just trolling to see people's reactions. That's all he wants. (I know I'm reacting to him now. I won't do that again.)

You still haven't explained why you spend so much time thinking, reading and writing about a pop singer that you despise. When that question comes up, you disappear.

I'm genuinely interested. I simply want to know. You've tried to explain a couple of times, but the idea of you "challenging" Morrissey just doesn't make any sense; he doesn't read your posts, he doesn't know that you exist. What's the point? If you decided to do something else with your time 1) you could actually achieve something, 2) you'd save me and many others from the annoyance of your constant presence.

I have wondered about the band and this video for a while as Morrissey did not use this tactic on the last tour I saw him on in America. Does the band actually turn around and watch it with the audience or do they stand forward playing to the crowd? I can't imagine the drummer cricking his neck to watch. I agree with you about the crowd switching off...a few might resonate to it, but there have to be better ways for him to actively convert carnivores to vegies.

Not ony are American audiences spared the documentary, their set lists are meatier, so to speak. Perhaps to avoid heckling.

Actually he showed the Farm to Fridge video as well as the PETA egg farm animated video on the American tour this spring. I was there.

"Most of his band aren't vegan/veggie"

Where does this idea come from?

Not ony are American audiences spared the documentary,

Huh? Every time I have seen Meat Is Murder performed in the US it has been accompanied by the Meet Your Meat video. What "sparing" are you referring to?

If there is anything I hope never leaves the setlist, it is Meat Is Murder. With the visuals. The more people are disgusted and made to feel "uncomfortable," the better.

Instead of labelling someone a troll so that you can, without effort, discount their argument, why don't you actually attempt to refute his points, one by one. I do read all his posts. Perhaps you should too. You have much to learn.

You read all of them and comprehend none of them.
The story of your life.
Don't you have some Robin Cook novels to read? LOL!

I disagree. He posts his insights because he has something intelligent and original to say. He is an outlier on a fansite of group thinking, cult members. Somebody needs to stir the pot lest the place become solely infested with cookie cutter, fawning sycophants all spouting the same unoriginal, predictable drivel, indistinguishable from one another. And many are anonymous to boot. Same nameless, voice.

Just because you can't get your simple mind around his motivation, doesn't mean it is his job to explain it to you.

I agree. And perhaps I agree because I come here with a genuine curiosity for how the European shows have turned out, not because I'm a cult member that takes everything Moz does or says as god-like. It's interesting to read other points of views, especially when they're well-written. Brummie's points on this thread, thus far, are intelligent and thought-provoking, in my opinion.

Last thing I'd like to write is, in regards to Moz's veganism, he is in fact not a vegan. There are milk products in his rider. It is up to you whether you want to believe it or not, but that doesn't change the reality. Do some research and you will come across this information.

Jesus Christ, stop kissing his ass. BrummieBoy is obviously and proudly a troll. I don't think he even denies it himself; if he did, he'd do it for the lulz.

That doesn't make any sense. Just like Johnny B has the right to spend his days on internet forums dedicated to pop singers he hates, I have the right to ask him why he's doing it. Why wouldn't I? I find him quite annoying.

I think you may be confusing negativity with intelligence. A lot of pseudointellectual teenagers do that. People are not "sycophants" for sincerely liking things.

Boz and Moz pretty much always seems to turn and watch the video at the end. The rest of the band - no.

Kissing his ass? Hardly. More like acknowledging his privilege to speak as freely as you are able to speak. I think you and your ilk are obsessed with controlling the tone and content of these forums. Why can't you allow others to express their opinions without being trolled endlessly in each thread by you and your apologists posse? If he gets even a few people to think outside the box then his presence serves a purpose and is not a waste of time. Why not attack the arguments and not the poster? Are you capable of doing so? Calling him a troll does nothing to refute his points. Just makes you look like a whiney simpleton.
