Morrissey has compiled the track-listing and chosen the sleeve for "Best of the Ramones" - TTY

Re: Morrissey digs Ramones! ~ tty

as a big fan of both Morrissey and the Ramones I still find this cover weird. Very surprised that Linda (Johnny's wife) approved this. I'm sure Johnny would not have dug this at all.

Anyway is no secret M is a fan of Ramones, he chose one of their tracks for his Under the Influence CD plus I remember him dedicating First Of The Gang To Die to Joey Ramone amongst others at a Brixton show back in 2002.

Re: TTY: Morrissey digs Ramones

Yeah I'll probably get this one as I haven't got any Ramones stuff yet. I guess the photographer was gay so that makes the photo gay? Dude with his shirt off=gay. Shirt on=not gay.

Why doesn't Moz jump in with Rhino Sire, or do they just release reissues and not new music?

Weren't The Smiths with Sire?

Re: Morrissey digs Ramones! ~ tty

I don't understand the use of a homoerotic image taken by a photographer notorious for capturing the male physique and its significance to a hetero, macho punk band from Queens. The only relevance seems to be that the Ramones were from New York. And this image is of Brooklyn boys, taken in New York. Hard to believe the management approved this sleeve. I like the photo. But it doesn't exactly scream Ramones.
That's what I like about his choice of sleeve image. It's a bit subversive, isn't it?

What! Ha, Ha. You find that image both homo and erotic? Maybe your perception is more a reflection on yourself? You statement is one of the funniest things I have read on this site in a while!

No matter, nice photo, I don't get the gay angle apart from that gayboys might like it, and it's pretty cool that our man's done the compiling.

Ofcourse you don't get the gay angle, darling.

Re: Morrissey digs Ramones! ~ tty

Sounds like you sicked up your brains, dearie.
Why not try thinking for a change?

Not all of us get off on being ravished by big butch blokes, heartface, despite it being very fashionable. If you enjoy it, as you seem to as apparently a member of the 1.6%, you carry on. It's a free country. Knock yerself out.

Re: Morrissey digs Ramones ~ tty

They have asked an expert. Compiling Greatest Hits albums has become Morrissey's specialty.

i become tired from you ,:tears:
Never somethings positive, what have Morrissey done to you ?
How is live my friend ?

Yes but only through the US I believe. Like Louder Than Bombs being released in the US vs The World Won't Listen in the UK. Morrissey's US singles were also released by Sire. Our Frank, Now My Heart Is full, Tomorrow etc...

You need to get on that stat! Don't wait for this compilation :)

Get the first five albums and call me in the morning.

Re: TTY: Morrissey digs Ramones

Not really sure of the appeal of a Ramones "Best Of".Already a perfectly good and reasonably priced Anthology out there.

Re: Morrissey digs Ramones! ~ tty

There are plenty of artistic images of the male form from the Ancient world which are genuine art, but any straight blokes seeing that image just sicked up a little in their mouths. That's the difference. It's the contents of Jean Paul Gaultier's wank bank versus Michelangelo's David.

As a Ramones album cover it leaves a lot to be de-Sired, but interesting that Morrissey appears to take more time choosing a greatest hits package by another artist than he can muster for his own.

Edit: That's for roguerebellions, who cannot format a post, by the way.

Are you always so petty?

After reading this I realize you have just answered my question.

Well being that I enjoy watching gay porn, homo and erotic are two things that go together well, imo. Like peas and carrots, Mr. Sucks.

Yes it is. But what does it say about the Ramones? That both they and the image were subversive--punk in the day? Both challenging mainstream notions of what was considered good music and beautiful art? That is it! By George, I think she's got it.

At the very least, what that image clearly does is put Moz's signature on the collection. Which of course means that not only will Ramones fans buy it but so will Morrissey fans. Perhaps their management team knew exactly why this image was perfect for the sleeve. Sort of like let's capture two big birds with one net.

That's a great photo choice. This is one of those photographs you can write a story about. What they're discussing. What they're going to do later that night. It could be completely innocent or extremely dangerous. I think it's very cool. I see it better as a backdrop to one of his shows, actually.

The photo is lazy and I would have hoped for something better, if Morrissey did indeed choose it. I doubt it took too much digging around and sifting through photos to find that one. It's so cliched it is boring.

Yeah, of course it's lazy because it's Morrissey's choice. Wouldn't have been lazy, clichéd or boring if it had been anyone else's choice. But you know, we must take our opportunities to sneer at Morrissey where we can.
