Riot Fest reveals 2016 lineup, and it’s batshit crazy - Consequence Of Sound
Chicago and Denver events boast Morrissey, Ween, Deftones, Death Grips, Sleater-Kinney, NAS, Rob Zombie, Refused, and many more

Excerpt:

Riot Fest has revealed the lineups for its upcoming festivals in Chicago and Denver.

Now in its 12th year, the festival’s flagship event, Riot Fest Chicago, takes place September 16th – 18th at Douglas Park. And, once again, the lineup is absolutely bonkers.

In addition to a previously announced reunion of the Misfits’ founding members, the lineup boasts Morrissey, Ween, Social Distortion (performing White Light, White Heat, White Trash), Rob Zombie (performing White Zombie’s Astro-Creep: 2000), Death Cab For Cutie, Brand New, NAS, Deftones, Refused, Death Grips, Descendents, The Specials, Foo Fighters side-project Chevy Metal, and Fugazi offshoot Girls Against Boys.

Based on last year's food vendors, it most certainly IS NOT meat-free. Corn dogs, pulled pork, beef of all kinds.

50 food vendors have signed on and been confirmed. One of the many carnivorous vendors is BLACKHAWK BBQ, there are several others.

I feel that Moz is not aware of the details of the venue, once he is made aware that he is confirmed to perform on RODEO GROUNDS, he will cancel and more money wasted.

I wrote to True to You and asked them to inform Moz of the massive amounts of meat consumption that will be going on. Also, I am not sure that Moz knows that Riotfest is taking place on RODEO AND CARNIVAL grounds.

Nobody forced him to make the booking at this animal unfriendly festival. The Royals in the UK eat animal flesh 3000 miles away and its a TTY post full of condemnation, but thousands eat mouth watering triple cheese burgers right in front of him and its ok because hes getting paid.

everytime he leaves his bed ... on the streets he walks, in the houses he passes by, on the planes he flies with etc. etc. I bet some horrible creatures are eating bloody meat right now in the house beside you. Welcome to planet earth.

does anybody else think we might get a few new songs,i think we might...think Morrissey and the band are probably sick of the same songs over and over.try them out then their will be a tour later in the year.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. Maybe if nothing else, he'll do a cover song of something he's never done. Still, some new songs would be awesome.

I think the same. Or at least hope cause that'd be great either way though of course i want to hear a new song.
If he did do a cover I wonder if it'd be something fitting the event

That's a good question. He's done "location-specific" covers in the past like (one of my faves) "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden". Maybe some material from TQID given the anniversary and all.

Frankly I think he wanted to slide under the vegan radar and take the money and run but now the steak sandwich is out of the oven and the public will now watch for his reaction. Will money trump his precious ethics?

If Moz is unfazed by having to wake up and face the fact that everyone around him is enjoying mouth watering bacon burgers, why then the kvetching about a select few like the Royals? This appears to be a contradictory and discriminatory practice on his part.

Who died and left you in charge?

Well, we're talking about Morrissey after all. Nothing new here.

Morrissey has played many festivals in the past - in recent years even - where plenty of meat has been available. Not every Morrissey gig is meat-free, even his own. He goes after high-profile venues like the Staples Center and Madison Square Garden to make a big statement, but I've seen hot dogs on sale at smaller venues as recently as last year. Take for example his last show, on January 2, at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. A mere 2 minute stroll from the interconnected venue will bring you to steak house on the casino floor.

Yeah I'd imagine something from that album might get played regardless but it'd be neat if say he covered a rancid song since he just went and saw them even a single like roots radicals. Be neat to hear him sing both the yeah you know I'm a radical bit and the line about reggae on his stereo just for the in joke. I really want bream new to sing there morrissey song but it's on there first album and I'm not sure how much of that one they play anymore but he's gotta be tempted to just to get a crowd reaction. On the flipside I'm kinda hoping that some acts play a morrissey smiths cover or two. Bands like trhusday are sure gonna play there Ian Curtis song as its a reunion show for them so a tribute to moz might also be cool as he's a fan. War on women are a band full of feminists from Baltimore so there might through out a shout out etc. they also love Danzig just sayin

The suspense is killing me, tour or no tour?? I enjoyed the FYF festival concert a lot , Denver would be nice but i think it would be great to see him at the Roxy or the Fonda Theater.

Who died and left you in charge?

When I devoted my life to Animal Rights and when I got the job with PETA, I left myself in charge. Morrissey and I have met before at PETA events and he doesnt seem to research the venues and finds himself playing venues he doesnt want to play.

Harsh Truth, this is my first time on SOLO and I think you're rudeness is very dissapointing. I said nothing about you i dont even know who you are. I have the right to write to TRUE TO YOU if I want to. I write often, I have known the person who runs the page for many years.

What a rude person. BTW, who died and left YOU in charge? Im interested in animal rights, you just want some kebabs and a few burgers.

I am concerned at this advertisement. It shows tigers at both upper corners, and I fear that caged animals might be present at Riot Fest. Can anyone confirm this? It says that Riot Fest is also a "carnival." I am genuinely worried. Thanks.
I winced too when i saw "carnival". Can anyone confirm no animals in cages for this festival or else it's over before it ever started.

Clearly this is your first time on this website; otherwise you'd know that Anonymous posters with a holier-than-thou attitudes are often called out for being pompous and self-righteous, as your follow-up post confirms. You're actually lucky it was me that responded to you - others can be far more -er - direct than I.

I truly didn't mean to ruin your day - all I meant was who are you to attempt to sabotage a Morrissey concert for fans that might like to attend. (It is not likely that I would go to this, as I am not big on outdoor festivals so it's not a personal issue for me - but I will certainly will see him in other venues in 2016, if there are other shows...) Surely when someone asked him "Hey Moz, will you play Riot Fest this September?", Morrissey couldn't possibly have assumed it was a meat-free affair. As I said in another post, Morrissey picks and chooses his battles. Always has, always will. And I'm sure he'll attempt to make his point with "Meat is Murder" onstage in Chicago.

There won't be. It's just a tongue in cheek phrase about the audience. Can't make you believe me of course but no there won't be. I think someone above said slate Kinney made a post about it but I don't do Twitter and am already familiar with riot fest. Don't know if you're serious or not but no. No animals in cages

The odds of this being strictly a one-off show are very slim. There are almost certainly going to be more dates. He may, per his contract with Riot Fest, need to wait a certain amount of time before announcing other concerts, particularly within a a given radius of Chicago.

If he wanted to do a location specific song, maybe he would do a Smoking Popes cover, since they're from Chicago and he's friends with the band. It might be cool if he did Bo Diddley or Curtis Mayfield, two other Chi artists. Well, he'd probably pick something more obscure, which is always cool to. Wouldn't the obvious band to cover a Moz song be Me First And The Gimmie Gimmies?

Yeah that would be obvious and I'd bet cape is a fan but I'm just not sure about mike. On that front I'm wondering if he and under oath will get back into there fued. Me first is a joke band and I'm not sure how funny it'd be if they covered a song of his. Not the offense people would or he would take which would be none but what would they do to the song to make it funny or ironic. Yeah I'm just not as big a fan of the smoking popes, not that I'm a hater either they're just not my thing. Same with tiger army. A social d song would be great and there are a lot he could do that obviously have a rockabilly slant. He could also as you suggest do a no diddly cover but this is kinda a scene event still in spirit and I'm not sure how the crowd would react honestly. Could go either way. Could always go the much more obscure way and pick a big black or naked Raygun song but that I couldn't imagine.mwhat would moz coving a big black song sound like. It'd be weird

"Chicago and Denver events boast Morrissey,"

I do not see him on the Denver flyer yet.

For those who are curious concerned about the carnival aspect of riot fest. This from new noise magazine

"
The expanded grounds will allow for significantly more attractions, including two Ferris wheels, and many other carnival rides such as crowd favorites like bumper cars and tilt-a-whirl. All in all, the new site will house over a dozen rides and numerous games to round out the carnival element of the festival. To ensure you’re able to make the most of the carnival experience, 3-day all-you-can-ride passes are available now.

That’s just the start of additional attractions though! A custom built 9-hole mini-golf course will be placed on the grounds. Enjoy an interactive game with some friends on this unique and cleverly designed course. A full-scale haunted house from Zombie Army Productions (known for their terrifying Stateville Haunted Prison) will provide an outlet for horror fans and thrill seekers to contribute their screams to the fest as they pass through the haunted zombie containment facility.

As in past years, Lucha Libre wrestling will take place in the onsite wrestling ring throughout the weekend. This time though, Dannie Diesels Bump and Grind Academy presents Gospel For The Guilty burlesque shows will use the ring as a stage in between matches. Organizers are also happy to welcome back The Worlds Greatest Rock-N-Roll Circus Stunt Show….HELLZAPOPPIN CIRCUS SIDESHOW REVUE!with performances throughout the weekend.

In response to last year’s incredibly well received Butter Stamos, a sculpture of John Stamos carved onsite completely out of butter, organizers have scheduled daily chainsaw sculpting. In tribute to the late Dave Brockie of GWAR, Friday’s sculpture will be of Oderous Urungus. Keeping with tradition, Saturday’s sculpture will be of Riot’s unofficial mascot John Stamos, and Sunday’ssculpture will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Behind the scenes, Riot Fest has always been mindful of charitable duties and has partnered with Chicago Coalition for the Homeless for several years now. This time, they are bringing the cause to the forefront by housing a classic 20-game arcade on the grounds. All proceeds from the arcade will fuel Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, and these classic games are sure to fuel your taste for nostalgia.

Food and drink offerings will be impressive as well, with local operators of some of Chicago’s coolest restaurants and food trucks at every price point. As a new addition, organizers are very happy to be bringing in a wine bar for those who would like alcoholic beverage options outside of beer.

The site map is now available revealing the stages and layout of what is known as one of the most awesome offerings of music, food and fun around. This year’s lineup features over 100 artists, with a mix of Riot alum and newbies across 7 stages. There will even be an additional 8th stage on Friday to house the special interactive panel with Russian conceptual artists and formerly-imprisoned activists,P*ssy Riot (Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alekhina). Details on the panel discussion with P*ssy Riot will be announced in the coming weeks, but fans should anticipate a novel festival experience unlike one ever witnessed at Riot.

3-Day passes are going fast and are nearly sold out! Don’t miss out on a full weekend of music and fun – get tickets while they’re still available! For those that can’t make the whole weekend, 1 and 2-day passes are now available too."
