Anyway, I hate to use the same song twice since all of his work tells a facet of the story, but this one is seminal. What you have to know is that "the fountain" is an imaginary place and Morrissey says "let it be real around the fountain" and it never is despite how desperately he hopes and dreams it will be so. So sometimes God can be an asshole and says to Morrissey, "You have to stay trapped in this mythical fountain place and I'm not going to tell you why but I will continue to lead you to believe that perhaps right around the corner, you'll be free and it will be real." So he goes on stage and sings the songs, ask his soul mate to sing her life so that he can have some sort of clue of where to find her, constantly searching and pining and waiting all the while she's in a coma to herself but not to him and Morrissey works and works and works and God says "keep going back to the fountain" untiil finally she wakes up. Actually, Taxi wakes her up. Then Morrissey says to the fountain, this mythical place, "I'm outta here." He's indebted to Taxi for waking her up, but first he has some business to take care of.
