he should do a Radiohead
Perhaps his promotion is a little old fashioned:
Look how bob dylan promoted his new album
No offical word of an up coming release at all right up until the last minute- not from the artist himself or the offical website.
No use of the internet for news updates - noone even knew he was in the studio - the internet was a terrible source of solid information - just vague rumour - they don't kill the rumour by drowning it in fact - they let it fester
Early special listening sessions with handpicked critics give them a scoop -"There is a new album - ive heard it - its great!"
All promotion happen via the printed media - one long and very good indepth interview (handpicked interviewer) split into 4 parts and given out in sequence to four news papers round the world - of course they are immediately scanned by fans and are only offically release to the internet a week after publication.
The lead single is the strongest track on the album.
Thats how to sell records these days.
do you really want morrissey to be one of those one-time chart toppers never to be heard again?
Macarena, etc.
Didn't YATQ get number one?
I can't see him ever charting well again. It's sad but then its the same for lots of artists.
To be fair Morrissey, nor The Smiths ever had great chart success, it doesnt detract from them at all tho! The Smiths were the most unique and original Group to ever come out of Britain. Morrissey is still writing excellant songs, atleast Skull actually deals with an interesting topic.
If the mainstream want to constantly fire lady gaga etc to the top let them, It's their embarasing decision to buy into that crap.
I think Smiler's point was more to do with building the mystery around a new album, getting people excited about it.
How are the charts anything to go by when Shit like Lady Gaga is storming the charts with her vacuous 'pop' records.
Who ever wanted Morrissey to be mainstream?
Not me certainly.
the less people who like morrissey the better (wont.share.him)
Morrissey, as a recording artist, is in trouble.
