Mojo / Andrew Male: review of IANADOAC (4/5*s)

I distrust anyone who can't even spell Morrissey.
Think it's quite common for headline acts to get input into the lineup, particularly who immediately precedes them.

Can't see Morrissey having picked Echo & the Bunnymen, though, after the things IM has said about him. Which Morrissey will be aware of.

Lol.

Again, California Son charted at number 4 in the UK. None of the tracks on that album were written by Morrissey and it still charted at number 4. Click that bloody Wikipedia link and see for yourself that California Son charted at number 4.

Did I mention enough times that California Son charted at number 4?

You seem all too keen when you repeat that chart position as if it's some mantra of comfort and desperate consolation - of sorts - for you. Hmmmmm. How revealing of you that you make no reference whatsoever to the fact that 'California Son' fell out of both the UK Top 100 Albums Chart and the Billboard US Top 200 Albums Chart in less than a month after its release. The phrase "Pyrrhic victory" instantly comes to mind upon reading your self-soothing comments. Let's also not forget that neither of his two solitary UK shows have even sold out yet (ask yer man @Surface about this. He knows so much about these things). A situation that would have been unthinkable for Morrissey once upon a time has now come to pa. Self-sabotage has long been his forte. Recent events and an annoying knack of opening his gob before engaging his brain won't return his lost British fanbase to him. Sad and rather pitiful, but all too inevitable and very much of his own making.
And if you don't believe me now, here's Morrissey singles record for you to check below - compliments of the UK Official Charts website. His last Top 10 hit was in 2006 with 'You Have Killed Me', whilst he last saw Top 40 action ten years ago this month with 'I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris'.

Because more if his fans are still agile/alive. Blondie are in their 70's, Morrissey is 60.

How many huge selling albums are you expecting Morrissey to have in the next 14 years?

Wait a minute, Blondie was hugely successful in the 80s, but then they disappeared from the spotlight for such a long time. Perhaps their reunion was one of the least expected due to their age, but definitely nice.
Morrissey in contrast has always been around as a performing artist, still drawing decent crowds at concerts including younger people.

Which album dropped out of the top 100 fastest? Morrissey
Which album stayed in the top 100 longest? Blondie.

Facts people! Just look at those delicious facts!

Available here: just search Morrissey or Blondie

Ta for this. Here's Mozza's album's stats. 'California Son' only stayed in said chart for not even a month, even though it says 4 weeks.

For someone of his supposed stature - and I speak as a former fan, the performances of his most recent releases sadly shows his increasing irrelevance to casual listeners in 2020. Just saying.

Nah, it will certainly not be his last. But after three records within 3 years a new album will be a longer wait this time.
2023 or 2024 maybe.
There will always be interest in releasing a new Moz-album, he is a legend.

Maybe there will be record company interest to release new Morrissey music at the occasion of his 70th or 75th birthday, when enough time has passed and the world has forgotten about his stupidities.
I think 2023 or 2024 s fairly optimistic.
For those willing to separate the music from the man, better to enjoy the musc now, while we still have a chance.

I think they disappeared due to Chris Stein's illness.

I don't have to separate anything, he usually seems like a nice guy.

If the album is a success (commercially) then it won't be problem for future record companies. But it seems that the previously Morrissey-friendly radio stations are refusing to play any of the new songs (to date at least) which will reduce its commercial success considerably. Furthermore, about 50-60% of the UK fan-base (for concerts at least) seems to have deserted him, incensed by his decision to publicly and unambiguously endorse a far-right political party, and cheer on the likes of Farage and Robinson.
He needs to issue a statement and retract that support, pretty urgently. He is not a genuinely right-wing person - he was simply drawn in to supporting these clowns (For Britain) because the singer is a gay vegan feminist.

Obviously you were not at any of the last five years worth of UK Concerts then, stupid Anonymous fool.

Nope, it's just his recording career that's in jeopardy, and his biggest problems are in the UK. He can keep going for years playing live on the nostalgia circuit albeit to smaller crowds than he's been used to. Credit where due, it's impressive that he's been asked to headline the Cruel World festival - there's no way a similar sized festival in the UK would have him top of the bill.
The UK is not the world.

Gotta be honest. f***ing loving these pointless arguments tonight! I don't know, I'm just in that mood! Anyway...

Who cares how long it was in the charts? Fact is, you said (at least, I think it was you) that Blondie charted higher. It didn't. They both charted at number 4. And, if I'm correct, that's the sixth time I've typed that today! Another fact! :)

001

Nope. Never mentioned Blondie charting higher. I did provide the chart facts - which speak clearly for themselves.

If Morrissey made a left-wing statement saying For Britain is bad and immigration is good, you’d all agree. None of you have opinions, you just agree with Morrissey. Stop pretending otherwise. Also, stop pretending to BE Morrissey. I mean, I’m sure you’re awful, but better to be yourself than pretending to be that insane c***.

:thumb:

Blondie is an interesting marketing case - cool new wave band in Europe but seen as uncool sell-outs in the USA at their peak.

I think Moz benefited from flying under the radar & being so unpredictable.

Where do you get this shite?

Blondie have not headlined at Glastonbury

You are correct! My apologies.

Blondie played in 2014 and headlined one of the other stages not the main stage. This changes little about Thewlis's incorrect claim. Blondie has headlined festivals. All other points in the original comment stand.

Is that a reference to Sylvia Plath? If so, wrong place.

Speaking of Plath, if you or anyone here hasn't read The Journals of, then do. Then read Ted Hughes' Birthday Letters. Just staggering.

Actually, it was a reference to Patric Doonan, but each to their own chum.

í thought this was a thread on the Mojo review, but í may be wrong.

í am reading The Journals/Birthday Letters as we speak: Happy Valentine's!
