Special announcement- CrowdFunder to create a permanent mural dedicated to Andy Rourke. Delighted to finally share that after many months of planning, there is an official CrowdFunder running now, in partnership with the charity, Pancreatic Cancer Action. The mural will be brought to life by world-renowned street artist Akse, with a striking image credited to The Smiths' 1985 -1986 UK/USA tour photographer, Nalinee Darmrong, who has kindly given her blessing to the project.
Your donations will go directly towards the creation of this artwork. We are offering limited edition of 100 x A4 prints for people who pledge £50 and 30 x A3 prints for people who pledge £100. All prints would be signed by Akse P19 and Mike Joyce. All funds raised above our target amount will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action.

15.5k target.
Regards,
FWD.

This pretty cool - but I've always wondered about the longevity of these things - what's to stop another street artist just coming up the next day and painting over it?

these artists are truly talented, sure the funding will go well.

I hope they find a lovely side of a lawnmover parts stockist's building to paint the mural.

[print ordered]...this is absolutely beautiful stufff, Mike Joyce!

The loss of Andy Rourke is primarily a tragedy for his family and friends but a residual 'parasocial' sorrow from those who only 'knew' Andy through his bass anchors ⚓️ is valid and, hopefully, respectfully supports the grieving process.

...I always experienced 'The Smiths' as a Radical Art Collective and, as a muso 'lost in music' myself, never understood the bizarre idea that the rhythm chassis under the hood wasn't to be as appreciated as the vocal melodies, lyrics and epochal guitar tapestries. It's only in Wstern music that such disdain for rhythm and over-validation if melody and lyricism reigns.

I recently saw 'Jane's Addiction' in Manchester and Dublin- a band that all recognise as multi-faceted with The Bass being as key to the sound sculptures as anything else.

Good luck with your future plans, Mike, and thanks for your work with Sinead...another tragic loss alongside Dolores who Andy joined forces with briefly in D.A.R.K

There's more to life than The Smiths...much more...and you, Andy and Johnny proved it over decades with myriad musical adventures. A beautiful legacy.

Rest in peace, Andy

Kind regards

What about the time it takes him to create these masterpieces, I went to the Ian Curtis unveiling and the attention to detail is amazing.
then i hope you will be making a donation.

I'm not a fan of wall murals. I find them sinister. They evoke Northern Ireland at the height of The Troubles.
