I saw this in my stream today and posted it as a bit of ex-Smiths news sans editorial remarks. My point here is to share info, not to praise or condemn Joyce's current or past actions or to expound on the virtues of vegetarianism, etc.

That is indeed a bit pretentious but Mike does have a point there (although Wikipedia was first to acknowledge the fact: "Marks & Spencer Percy Pig sweets contain real pig" ).

I've been to the M&S at the bottom of Deansgate and bought sweeties there. They have veggie ones and non-veggie ones. I avoid the gelatine containing ones. It's really not that hard.

yes, but I think his point was why have the choice? Can children really tell the difference between pig gelatin and vegetarian gelatin. And would that alter the taste if they discontinued having a choice. And if going all vegetarian would that affect sales ? I wouldn't think so.

But when you buy from a company that sells pork gelatin you're also supporting the killing of pigs whether you eat it yourself or not.

As someone who has to follow a special diet (gluten free) many years of experience taught me most of times when we eat processed food we could be eating wrapped shit and we wouldn't notice it. I don't trust anymore in the word of food companies. They could be selling the same thing under two different labels. Would you notice it? Would any government agency notice it? Would they care if they notice it? If they approved aspartame, everything is possible in foodland.

He or she has given me 2 or 3 positive ratings as well, surprisingly so.
I don't mind, as I said, he or she is keeping me grounded and I need to be confronted by another opinion.
Although for some reason it is only through the rating and not by arguments.

My first impulse would be to say: f*** that reality.

But I understand it's not that easy.
Especially if other people rely on you.
I wish though you could have a bit more enjoyment of life.
