Massive Attack announce new EP, Atlas Air
Massive Attack’s long-in-the-works new EP isn’t exactly what the band detailed in February, but it does sport an added bonus. The four-track Atlas Air will mark the 15th anniversary of War Child’s iconic Help charity album.
Featuring music from the English trip hip outfit as well as Radiohead and The Stone Roses, the record raised £1.25 million for the UK based War Child, an organization which focuses on providing assistance to children in areas of conflict and post-conflict.
“The initial pitch to support War Child and Help wasn’t difficult: children are the innocent victims of war. We were quick to get involved. What’s so great about War Child is they continue to make great albums and events,” explains Massive Attack member Robert Del Naja (via Clash Music). “It wasn’t a one-off, it’s an ongoing project and that can have an effect long-term.”
Massive Attack’s new EP will feature the title track — which originally appeared on their most recent LP Heligoland — plus a remix of it by DFA’s Tim Goldsworthy. Also included is a “Redlight”, a previously unreleased song from the Heligoland sessions featuring Elbow’s Guy Garvey. There’s a remix of this song as well, crafted by Warp producer Clark.
An exact release date for Atlas Air has not yet been confirmed, but Clash Music reports only 1,000 12″ vinyl copies will be pressed. Del Naja created the EP’s artwork.
Around the same time the EP is due, Massive Attack will hit North American soil for a co-headlining tour with Thievery Corporation. Find all tour dates here.
