"Stop Me" sounds a lot like this Donna Summer song from 1980 called "Stop Me" that is used in the same context.

If this-- "Mediocrity is happening on our watch, and it has been given a wide berth"-- is true, and has been for years, why exactly does this over/under list exist?
Once again the concept of "overrated" seems too slippery for Magnet to grasp, seeing as the first criticism of "Everyday Is Like Sunday" is Morrissey letting the NFL use it. Huh?
Why doesn't Matthew Fritch just write an essay about Morrissey and The Smiths instead of trying to populate these pointless lists?

Well, there's no way you can make such a list without incurring bitter disagreement. Probably it is a mark of the extraordinary quality of the Smiths that there is such a wide variety of views on best/worst songs. There are very few songs that does not crop up at least occasionally when people name their favorites.
Personally I disagree the most with his underrated list. There's not a single song on it that doesn't deserve to be regarded as among the weakest of the Smiths production, save for Still Ill, and I can't see how that is underrated - on the contrary, it seems to be a regular fixture on most fans' favorites lists.
Among the overrated I would include Reel around the Fountain, The Headmaster Ritual (good, but not that good), Rubber Ring, Sheila Take a Bow, The Queen is Dead and everything on Strangeways.
Underrated: Suffer Little children, This night has opened my eyes, These things take time, Girl Afraid, Stretch out and wait, Ask, Jeane, Wonderful woman and well I wonder.

It's just silly. they only have to find the five songs fans like the most and come up with something negative about them. I don't think they're overrated. They're just rated, and each of us has an opinion, that's all. But I don't think THEY do.

I seriously think your comment is painfully hard to read.
But anyway, hey... they picked some songs that are not as good as other to be in that list but I'm sure it pleased someone in the world and besides, articles like these are based on opinions and no one shares the exact same ones, so it's likely to be like that.
