Morrissey Central "Madness." (December 1, 2024)

"Wikipedia confidently list me as an ex-member of Slaughter And The Dogs, and an ex-member of The Nosebleeds. I did not ever join The Nosebleeds and I have no connection whatsoever with Slaughter And The Dogs. Is there anyone at Wikipedia intelligent enough to set the record straight? Probably not." What a joke he has become.

Concerned about people thinking he was in a band he wasn’t way back in 1922, while his empire burns.

When I became a fan at 14 in 1990, I never thought it would end like this.

That he doesn’t even know how Wikipedia works is hilarious. And you all think he is capable of self releasing music and think he doesn’t read every word here.

Does anyone know what Johnny originally wanted to call The Smiths?

Bristish journalist Peter Frame reconstructed the recruitment of Morrissey:

"Billy knew this guy Morrissey, who ran the New York Dolls Fan Club and wrote lyrics - and got him to join The Nosebleeds, although he had never sung before. The pair of them dumped all the group's old songs and wrote an entirely new set like "Peppermint Heaven" and "I Think I'm Ready For the Electric Chair". The audience was perplexed; it was a strange band!"

Before dissolving in late May of 1978, The Nosebleeds performed two concerts, one at the Ritz (supporting Magazine) and one at the Manchester Polytechnic for a Rabid Records benefit.

After the group split up Banger released a few solo singles and joined Slaughter and the Dogs during their period as Slaughter, Morrissey went on to form The Smiths, Toby appeared with Ludus, Blue Orchids and Primal Scream, and Pete Crooks joined up with Vini Reilly in the first incarnation of The Durutti Column under the "guide" of Tony Wilson.

Someone must have pointed out the Wikipedia error to him.

Marr said The Rolling Stones. You should know this!

proof ..

Well, this is from autobio:
"Billy wants to call the band the Politicians, or Hearts Go Bop, and my only suggestion is T-Shirt (after a recent LP by Loudon Wainwright) or Stupid Youth, and on and on. A Wythenshawe band called the Nosebleeds have broken up, and Billy enlists their rhythm section for a wrangled spot at Manchester University where a cast of thousands will play, and we are ready with our five songs – but no name. Astonishingly, the night is reviewed in print by Paul Morley for the New Musical Express. The band is listed as the Nosebleeds, and I am lumbered with this miscued name in private sufferance forevermore."
This is Moz, he cares about such stuff. Not surprising, not annoying, to be honest.

During the trademark drama (“I alone came up with the words “the smiths” in 1982”) recently, he mentioned what Johnny wanted to call the band, and it was a detail I had never heard before. I’m just curious if anyone else has heard this? The name is god awful and I kinda get why Morrissey would be upset that the guy who wanted to call the band “ ____ ____” actually controls the trademark for “the smiths”.

Duffy's view:

Time cued.

Interview: Edweena Banger on Life and The Nosebleeds On The Eve Of A New Album

Louder Than War: Vini was playing amazing punk guitar back then so it was before he’d developed his unique technique he used in Durutti Column. It was a big difference, what happened when he left?:

“He played straight rock and roll. We were going to form another band after the Nosebleeds and we’d had a few rehearsals. We’d got Mike Doherty out of the Smirks and a guy on bass called Budgie and that was sounding great. Then Vini came under some pressure from a few close associates and had to walk away which was a shame.

That’s when Morrissey joined The Nosebleeds with Billy Duffy. Morrissey had been knocking around some other bands at Tony Davidson’s rehearsal rooms and Vini Faal would have heard us rehearsing the new band. Billy Duffy was a roadie for the Nosebleeds. They lasted two gigs. They did the Mayflower and The Ritz supporting Magazine. I was supposed to go down and see ’em but I never did.

I have actually got a tape of one of the songs that we recorded. Somewhere! I’m sure it’s safe but I can’t find it now.”

Louder Than War: Paul Morley had a bit of a dig at you when Morrissey joined, saying that, ‘Finally the Nosebleeds have got a singer with personality’. But you were Mr Personality jumping around in front of the band, so why did he do that?

“Well that’s because I booted him wasn’t it? He came up to me at the Electric Circus saying that ‘You’re not real punk you’re just a made up punk band’, and I said ‘ave

Banger confirms similar.

More bizarre nonsense from camp Moz.

Lol. He's such a Boomer. Who cares, if he did sing or did not sing in two groups nobody outside the then Manchester scene knows? And he obviously still does not know how Wikipedia works (wasn't this also an issue a while back?). Anyway, has he googled himself again?

Morrissey, if you're in the mood to clear things up... what's the status of BOT? Why were so many shows canceled last year and early this year? We can start there.

Our hero imprisoned doesn't even know that anyone can contribute on Wikipedia, which means even him.

This post of Morrissey is incredible as it reveals he reads his bio on wiki whereas the biography in itsef doesn't matter.

This is so disturbing. He’s moved into his dead mother’s house. He’s posting obituaries for Old Hollywood. He’s isolating himself and clearly concerned about his legacy in some weird way as evidenced by this.

Confidently? Nobody is even around to tell him how Wikipedia works? This is the first thing he’s ever posted that on its face just makes him look out of touch and outright stupid. I fear what’s next.

Absolutely disgusting.

Between this and Jane Birkin's Wikipedia page not mentioning her appearance at his Meltdown festival, I'm glad I ignore its pleas for a donation.

His first obituary post was via TTY re: Gill Smith in 2009.
It appeared to increase from occasionally to more regularly in 2013->
(also needing to factor in whether he was active via socials/touring et al).
Slight increase when moving to Central.
This year is the highest amount so far - 10.
Regards,
FWD.

I don't honestly think it's disturbing. He's a man in his mid 60s who was poleaxed by the death of his beloved mother - I can certainly imagine finding comfort in being in that house, surrounded by those memories. The posting of obituaries: he's been obsessed by death since a very young age, and he's been prone to hero worship for just as long - so this really isn't surprising either. And as for being concerned about his legacy, that seems only natural, really?

So many of us (myself included) keep projecting things on to Morrissey as if he was normal or typical. And he's not. It feels like all we can do now is watch, as the weirdness keeps unfolding. (Or, as the malady lingers on...)
