Love Music Hate Racism event by Dave Haslam - Manchester, same night Morrissey plays (July 8, 2018)

http://www.davehaslam.com/#/one-nation-under-a-groove/

Ex-Hacienda DJ Dave Haslam is throwing a free party to coincide with Morrissey’s forthcoming visit to the city. He says the party, featuring more than a dozen of the city’s top DJs is “in response to Morrissey’s divisive views, and his support for the far-right.”

Morrissey has attracted controversy for a host of remarks and opinions – including undermining the #metoo campaign and claiming there’s “no difference between eating animals and paedophilia”.

In recent years, the ex-Smiths singer’s views on race have become particularly strident. Morrissey has described the Chinese people “a sub-species”, heavily criticised Angela Merkel for opening German borders to refugees, and has gone on record supporting far-right figures like Anne Marie Waters and EDL founder Tommy Robinson. He does, however, claim to have “Muslim friends”.

“Manchester is our home, it’s a city built on immigration, a city with an amazing legacy of great bands and wonderful clubs,” says Haslam. “Music brings people together. Strangers become brothers, sisters. All this positivity spreads into the city and beyond.”

Haslam points out Manchester’s solidarity and sense of community in the aftermath of the Manchester Arena attack, which he contrasts with Morrissey’s pronouncements; “Morrissey hasn’t lived in the city for thirty years – he lives abroad in tax exile – and has now joined the ranks of various right-wing politicians, tax exiles, tabloids, and media hate-slingers seeking to divide our community.

“There are counter arguments. There are many of them. But for now, I’ve decided to counter the hate by throwing a free party, a celebratory all-dayer of beautifully diverse soul-filled, hope-filled music…”

The event on Sunday July 8th, entitled ‘One Nation Under A Groove’ will take place at Revolution on Deansgate Locks from 3pm until midnight.

DJs include DJ Paulette (Flesh), Dom (Blood & Fire), and Irfan Rainy (Community). In addition, Haslam himself is joining forces with Elliot Eastwick and Jason Boardman to resurrect the hugely successful ‘Yellow’ brand as a one-off for the event.

Admission is free, but a collection will be taken, which will be donated to the charity Love Music Hate Racism.

“It might not be coincidence that the venue is just a few hundred yards from where Morrissey is playing,” admits Haslam.

“Morrissey fans on their way to or back from his concert are more than welcome,” he says.

Oi! Dumb-ass! As a wise man once sang, "Can't you read?".

"This recording is dedicated to Dick Gregory (1932-2017)"

if only all the articles we've been reading mentioned that he actually dedicated his latest album to a black man...

so that's the point some of my friends struggle to understand...

I can see someone in a hundred years studying Moz and writing that...hey...this singer who was accused of being a racist did in fact dedicate his last album to a black man...

He once made a dig about Angela Merkel?? Wow. So did thousands of others (and by the way Merkel has admitted herself , from her own lips, that there's now areas of Germany struggling because of her open door policy). He supports Britain First?? Mostly (I bet) it's because they actually have policies that are about animal welfare, plus he's said he's bored of Labour/Conservative jump hopping. (Aren't we all??? Many are!!!!!!)

Why the anger and protests now? Are they unhappy NOW but happy to call him a legend before when he sang "Shelve your Western plans" ????

Bloody hell. The moaning is dull. People just love snowflake-humping to the point of sad, empty orgasm.
so spot on...so spot on...

Can't get my head around the idea that you only have to say you supported Brexit or have concerns regarding immigration to be told you're a vile, racist, scum, disgusting person ... akin to hitler. I guess days of TRULY being open minded and able to debate are GONE. People say they are DESPERATE for free speech and debate but burst into tears of fury when opposing views get any say (much more HATE on this board than I've ever heard coming outta Mozz's mouth, ironic really!)

you can be proud of your country and be concerned about figures due to immigration without hating other races. It's like people walking into my house, using all my stuff, and me not being able to at least say, 'hey I only have two bedrooms and barely any food in my fridge to feed my kids, so can you please step outside here for a bit" but then me being called evil for trying to maintain what I have. The "you're racist and hate everyone" card is used so much..... When something truly despicable happens, no one will listen because we'll all be desensitised to the outpouring of snowflake tears we've had to be drenched in lately.

I could not agree with you more on everything you said...EXACTLY.

I think the people promoting this event are only using Moz as a bait to attract moronic beings to their otherwise doomed randezvouz.

I just hope there are no inflamed/inflammatory speeches involving his name, belittling him.

Moz dedicated Low In High School to a black person.
Period.

The world has decided Moz is a racist, the views of his fans don't mean shit to them.

This man is so pathetic. Moz didn't say that HE doesn't get on with black people or that HE doesn't like black people. He basically said that you can't eradicate racism completely and that it will always be part of our society no matter how much time passes. And you know what? He was right because here were are in 2018 and it's still there.

FGS. Skinny. You used to be prominent on this site for being quite intelligent and amusing. Now your posts read like they've been written by a 12 year old. Have you really nothing else in you but foul mouthed insults and name calling? Everybody is "wacist". While you can't construct a sentence that actually means anything.

I'm disappointed by what you've become.

Not sorry.

I wouldn't worry too much about Peter - he is on full-scale loony mode today.

I only ever come here just to laugh at him - the last 24 hours have been hysterical.

His lack of self-awareness if a thing of absolute wonder. Just enjoy it.

You know the people who spam all kinds of chats and forums online when something has happened?
They get paid for it.
His online YouTube username is 'Swilliamism'. I don't know what his real name is.

You can support him through Pay Pal if you want. There is a link on his YouTube channel with his email address. I don't support him financially myself though! I don't know how he makes his living?

I think that he is well spoken, articulate and intelligent. He seems like he is quite young. The video focuses mainly on the Tommy R protest in London but he also talks about Nelson Mandela and South Africa.

I like the way he thinks although I don't agree with everything that he says. I think he might be a lawyer he knows a lot about the law. I would say that he is probably part of the "Truth" Movement. He talks a lot about law, politics, Brexit and so on in his videos. I have also heard him talk about Satanic/occult symbolism in London. His videos focus on London quite a lot. I think that he might live in London or close to London.

I don't think he is a Christian though. I haven't heard him talk about Israel or the Jews in his videos. I don't know what the Jewish 'Infowars' Studio in Israel is? Is that connected to Alex Jones?

I personally don't like the American guy Alex Jones who runs 'Infowars' at all. I think he confuses people. I find his style very aggressive. Alex Jones says that he is a Catholic but I don't think that he is a true Christian.

I'm a born-again, Bible-believing Christian and I support the Jewish State of Israel. Some people might call me a 'Zionist' but I don't support violence on either side. I'm a pacifist at heart.

I don't agree with everything that this guy says in his videos. I just find his videos interesting. He reminds me a bit of a young Morrissey.

In terms of politics I'm a Liberal Democrat (Lib Dem). I don't support the Conservative Party or the Labour Party. If people want an alternative to the Conservatives (the 'Tories') or Labour in Britain then they could try the Lib Dems or the "Green Party" there are lots of different political parties out there that are offering an alternative. You don't have to join the far-right. The Lib Dems want to remain within the European Union (EU). Morrissey doesn't only live in Britain anymore he travels about a lot and he tours a lot! Some places Moz loves outside of Britain and the Republic of Ireland are LA in California in America, Rome in Italy and Switzerland.

I'm against Fascism, Communism and also Islamic extremists. I'm also against the New Age Movement and New Age spirituality which came out of the 'New Thought' Movement: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Thought

I'm a Christian that supports Israel. I want to preserve the Judeo-Christian way of life and traditional family values. I like the fact that Morrissey supports Israel and he has made that clear in his new album. I'm not sure that Morrissey is a Christian though? I would say that my Christian faith is much more important to me than worldly politics is.

As a left-winger, a socialist, this sort of stuff embarrasses me no end. There's not only an absence of nuance and intellectual rigor, but an absence of anything that might reasonably be referred to as thought. Why challenge ourselves when we can just point and label? Concerned about immigration? Racist! Worried about Islamic extremism? Racist! Not too fond of spicy food? Racist! We've entered a new age of mindlessness, where we on the left smugly congratulate ourselves (because we own the moral high ground, we're the goodies) and the only beneficiaries are the actual far right. Jesus f***ing wept.
I truly agree. I had thought that Dave H was an ally. Seems he’s just another 50 something trying to stay relevant. I would consider myself a socialist, I have mixed race children, I’m a vegan and live in the north of England. I don’t do social media (so have remained sane and measured).
What people are really scared of is upsetting anyone even if they deep down disagree.
Let’s play some music and have a drink and the world will sort itself out....nope.
Let’s ask Dave Haslam if he thinks Halal slaughter is cool. Is homophobia cool. Is modern slavery cool. Is the subjugation of women cool.
Why doesn’t he organise an event called Music against extremism (and by that I am meaning any form of extremism). He won’t because (and this is where M steps in) he is terrified of being seen as being uncool and non-liberal. But the thing is Dave, you won’t find people less liberal than the extremists who probably hate you and your kind for what you do in the name of freedom and democracy. Live and let live isn’t something not to be questioned. Pilgrimupnorth

Absolutely. I always switch off with people who revert to swearing in conversation, texts ,emails etc. True colours.
It shows a lack of vocabulary and intelligence. Had M swore his way through interviews in the 80s then I wouldn’t have bought a single 45. Pilgrimupnorth

Lefties events are always free and they bus people from all over the place and let the local antifa organise the unrest. I really hope lives will be lost and that Manchester burns down.
Imagine all those hipsters beards on fire.
