If you’re a fan of The Smiths, you won’t want to miss out on this special event at Leicester Cathedral.

Brought to you by Let Me In Presents, this brand new production, follows on from their sold out Cathedral tour of ‘An Evening of Radiohead’ across the UK throughout 2024.

Featuring an incredibly authentic ode to Morrissey & co, An Evening of The Smiths will take the iconic hits of The Smiths and reinvent them into epic showpieces with a full live band and string quartet, in the stunning setting of Leicester Cathedral. The show takes place on Saturday 30 November 2024.

Throughout the evening, the band will take you on a tour through the back catalogue of one of the UK’s best loved bands. Featuring deep cuts and classic hits including This Charming Man, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, Bigmouth Strikes Again, Well I Wonder, Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now, What Difference Does It Make? and many more.

Your band for the evening will be fronted by Christopher Buckle, and will include local musicians and The Smiths lovers – Alfie Woods, Bruce Higgs, Daniel Anketell, Josh Semans and Musical Director and multi-instrumentalist – Ewan Steady. The band will be accompanied by very special guests and nationally renowned string players – Mike Nowland, Mathias Svensson, Caroline Boddimead and Hannah Paterson.

The concert is all seated, with different price bands available. On the evening the music will begin at 7.30pm, with two sets and a 20 minute interval, with the event finishing shortly before 10pm.

There will be a selection of refreshments, including alcoholic drinks on sale.

Ticket prices start from £18, with different band options available. There are also discounts for under 25s, but all under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets are very limited and are on sale now via Eventbrite.

well, with a description such as .. ‘Featuring an incredibly authentic ode to Morrissey & co’ it can’t be all that bad. At least they’re not trying to rewrite music history and Morrissey’s place of importance in it. Don’t know what to make of the defacement of Alain Delon, seems in bad taste, but then again, we can just assume they had the design settled on before he passed away.

will be nice to hear what they do with this …

sounds like a very interesting evening, anything with strings sounds better, they must pack in a lot of songs and for 18quid,what does 18 quid get you these days, very little.

Was just kinda thinkin' how it's cool
that ya got folks coverin' The Smiths,
but if they really wanna capture the
essence of The Smiths then they should
play Meat Is Murder.
It's cool if folks wanna have a good time
and relax the mind, but once ya throw
Meat Is Murder in the mix, then all of
a sudden folks gotta think and maybe feel uncomfortable and maybe some get upset
and maybe some feel empowered.
Then ya got The Smiths.

Rick Ashley doin' cosplay.
Play Meat Is Murder.
Johnny Marr at a beer festival.
Play Meat Is Murder.

Haha, well Wild T'd at least like it.

That defacement is the only off-note. Sounds like long-overdue treatment otherwise. :violin::violin:

Yes. Think there should be some unspoken contractual obligation that if you cover more than one Smiths song then Meat Is Murder must be included! :hammer:

its two and a half hours with a twenty minute break, two hours twenty is a lot of songs so i assume mim will be played at some point, most smiths songs were short so its at least 40 songs.

hmmm, that’s quite long. Maybe too long?

This event is coming up next week. Did some people suggest something like this might have spurred concern over the use of the name of the band, and then the tiff too?
