I agree. Personally, I’m a big fan of People Are…. & Action Is…. I also really liked The Kid’s a Looker, & my favourite from that batch of songs was Scandinavia.

I really wish they’d been released on vinyl as a four track E.P.

Personally, I think it would be a mistake for Morrissey to play Bonfire in Manchester. I accept this perception virtually guarantees that it will have its place in the Apollo set list.

But you must remember that this is how Steve works. You see It’s the only model he knows. When he wrote the lyrics to Meat is Murder he basically stumbled on the art of writing “The Gimmick Song” A song that will generate Steve the dirt cheap good/bad controversy/publicity that he craves to keep him in the public eye.
The National Front Disco was a gimmick song, Margaret on the Guillotine……..
Bullfighter was actually just a Meat is Murder part 2 trolling animals, it failed miserably on all accounts to give him the financial return the he had hoped to deposit in the Solo Swiss bank account.

Can you imagine how the parents of the lost ones will feel hearing this ???

Subject to one side it’s not even of any quality. Piss poorly written/sung. It’s pure manure, who the hell in the record industry would invest in that ??? I’ve heard better bands in The Rose and Crown.

I don’t think it’s bad, it’s just not very good. Israel, Mountjoy, At Last I Am Born and now Bonfire of Teenagers are the measuring stick for shit Morrissey songs. I’d classify Looker as silly nonsense.

Yes, I seem to recall BENNY admitting that he attended one of Morrissey’s last arena gigs in the u.k (Leeds maybe?) with some nonsense excuse about a friend giving him a free ticket at the last minute & how he only went for a laugh & to see how empty the venue would be blah blah.

Such nonsense! If you really hated Morrissey as much as you claim, why would you go to see him in concert in a city far from your own? Even if the ticket were free? It doesn’t add up. I bet he loved every second of it. His continued presence on this site is proof enough that Morrissey continues to be a big part of his life.

Even the title is offensive. And ill-informed - of the 22 victims who lost their lives, *only* nine were teenagers. One under ten. And 12 adult victims aged over 20. Hardly a 'bonfire' of 'teenagers'.

Spot. On. He was rightly lauded for the lyrics to MIM but it seems have made him believe he can tackle any social issue with ease. Unfortunately he's nowhere near as informed about these issues as he is/was about the meat industry, so it always comes across as clumsy and (in the case of a terrorist attack) in extemely poor taste.

Couple observations from someone who went to the show...

1. It seems to me that Night 2 was actually a little bit more crowded than Night 1. Balcony was a little more filled and there was a decent size line at the box office after the doors open. Pretty sure there was quite a number of walk up purchases at the box office on the day of.

2. I had a couple sit next to me who coincidently were on vacation in Las Vegas and both of them were fans of the Smiths and decided to attend the show. Both of them didn't know much about Morrissey's solo material. They asked me how many songs from the Smiths he plays and I told them generally he does 3/4 songs per set. After the show I asked them what they thought, and they both loved the show and said it was incredible. Thought that was really cool.

3. While the show was great, I was a little disappointed at how the setlist was pretty much identical to Night 1. It was pretty much the same order, with the addition of Black Cloud. Minor nitpick on my part, but would have liked to hear some of the more recent songs Morrissey did at Cruel World or in Phoenix. Regardless it still was an enjoyable show and a great time.

4. Tons of stage invasions during HSIN.

5. Someone else did mentioned it in this thread but someone in the pit area was forcibly removed from the show by two Las Vegas police officers and about four or six casino security guards. No idea why the person was being kicked out but it happened quickly. The man being tossed out started to resist the police and they headlock him and got him out ASAP. I don't think anyone in the band or Morrissey noticed. It was off to the side of the pit.

6. Sure Enough, The Telephone Rings on a second live listen really grew on me. It's a pretty heavy track musically. Kind of get a little punk vibe from it. Hearing all the new songs was great, as mentioned in my Night 1 recap.


Overall two great shows and I'm glad I made the trip out to Vegas to see them. Just hope in the future Morrissey can do some east coast dates. Flight prices are murder!

Whilst I disagree with much of what you say, Morrissey has wilfully pursued notoriety throughout his career; this does mean he has some desire to have a negative impact on some people, all of the time.

So I personally think your presence here adds, rather than detracts, from the site’s ambition to reflect what’s out there in terms of Morrissey’s representation. And you’re a rather good writer.

And I’d agree that his critique of the NHS seemed limited and naïve: it struck me that he, more than most, would know the circumstances that Andy Warhol died in. So his unqualified disapproval of British public healthcare seemed particularly daft.

So your contribution had me reflecting on some stories about Warhol’s death, and I was ‘happy’ to be reminded of the horror. Particularly as the UK’s decline means that the angry informed are likely to be seduced into blaming institutions—by a government that (understandably) has a problem with responsibility.

A bit disappointing (but no longer surprising) to see Morrissey doing some leg work for The Tories. But I guess money does that to you.

Nevertheless, the first five songs of that new set-list makes it worthwhile (for me).

It's normally used for 'The Loop'. So I guess either it was cut from the setlist, or they like to have it handy at every show just in case Moz suddenly decides on a whim he wants to play the song after all. Better safe than sorry.

I asked the same thing. In case you haven’t seen since posting, they did play The Loop on Wednesday. It was intended to be played at some point in the set so it was set up just to keep everything in the appropriate place for when they did.

Black Cloud, one of the worst songs of his repertoire ? It was a pregant pose in his sets from 2009 to 2011.
