I cannot find the link, but got this info from Japanese site.

The article showcases some parts of a new biography written by Simon Spence which claims Johnny Marr asked The Stone Roses if they would like him to join the band.

If that were true, Ian Brown would have jumped all over the idea and Marr would be in The Stone Roses.
Squire's replacement was hardly a household name or a great guitarist. This claim is just that, a claim with no basis in reality.
