The newly re-imagined 21st century version of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Jesus Christ Superstar” is set to tour North American as an arena rock spectacular.

The resurrected rock musical will hit the road this summer for a 50-city tour with its cast of rock, pop and R&B stars.

Incubus lead singer Brandon Boyd is confirmed for the role of Judas Iscariot, with *NSYNC member JC Chasez playing the role of Pontius Pilate and Destiny’s Child alum Michelle Williams taking on the female lead as Mary Magdalene. Former Sex Pistols vocalist John Rotten Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) will play King Herod and British actor and singer Ben Forster, who won England’s ITV ”Superstar” competition in 2012 and played the lead role in the show’s UK and Australian arena tours, will reprise his role as Jesus.

“‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ began life as a rock album, probably because nobody believed back in 1969 that you could present a stage musical about the last days of the life of Jesus Christ,” Webber said in a statement. “I shall never forget its first live performance in the Civic Arena, Pittsburgh on July 12th 1971. Of course ‘JCS’ subsequently became a legit theatre stalwart, but I, personally, have always hankered after seeing it again in the arenas where it started.”

The tour kicks off on June 9 in New Orleans and includes stops in Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York before wrapping in Philadelphia on August 17. Tickets will go on sale April 11.
