James Maker Statement: Is Morrissey a racist?

Statement:

Is Morrissey a racist?

The answer is an emphatic 'no'. In the forty years that I have known Morrissey, I have never once heard a racist epithet pass his lips. The terms 'racist', 'fascist', and 'Islamophobe' are so freely used nowadays against those whose opinions and worldview differs from our own, that they have lost their power and meaning.
Also, there is a worrying trend on the Left that, ironically, echoes fascism in its intolerance of reasoned debate. One is not only 'wrong' in expressing a different opinion, but one is also now 'evil'. I believe that calling Morrissey a racist is unjustifiable and wrong.
However, if you want to run out of the house wearing a garment ill-suited to the elements in order to throw Viva Hate into the Manchester Ship Canal, then that is, of course, your right.

In supporting Brexit, this does not make Morrissey an immigrant-hating 'Little Englander' who lives only to reverse the metric system and bring back steam trains. The truth is, there are myriad reasons why people voted to leave the EU. One of them is a mistrust of Brussels technocracy where unelected representatives make decisions that are arguably a matter for sovereignty.
Patriotism and Nationalism are very distinct: the former is characterised by an affection for one's country; the second is a more extreme and unforgiving form of allegiance to one's homeland. Morrissey might be guilty of patriotism, but not of nationalism.

Opposing Sharia Law in the UK, or FGM, or institutionalised misogyny—which is (trigger warning) widespread in the developing world—is an appropriate Western response borne of democracy and the development of civil liberties. It is neither racist nor Islamophobic.
After all, if I were to move to the United Arab Emirates in search of a better life, I wouldn't reasonably expect to be able to build a hot dog stand empire, serving pork products whilst dressed in a gender-neutral miniskirt.

To oppose halal slaughter is to oppose slaughter with additional cruelty. The zakat tax payable for Halal certification is used by Islamic organisations to fund mosques and religious schools. Such is the many-tentacled nature of zakat, it is difficult to determine whether it is also being used to crowdfund Islamist extremism. There is a growing concern in some quarters that it might be.

Hitler was indeed 'Left-wing' in the sense of incorporating the word 'socialist' into the party's name to cynically draw voters away from communism and towards populist nationalism dressed as socialism. Hence, 'Hitler was Left-wing.' Morrissey was not suggesting that Hitler and Yvette Cooper (for example) share the same political ideals. The fact is, Left-wing totalitarianism looks little different to Right-wing authoritarianism — if you're being oppressed, it's the same experience.

Again, is Morrissey a racist?
My answer is an emphatic 'no'.

Possibly written by Morrissey himself. The term "Statement" to lead off is the giveaway.
I actually don't think so. Morrissey's style is very distinctive: florid, overblown language, peculiar split infinitives all over the place, lots of emphatic words ('anything', 'hopeless', 'pointless', etc etc). When 'Boz' wrote that 'Paris for Profit' letter it was very obviously Morrissey because it had his hallmarks all over it. This is much sharper and (dare I say it) better written. I don't think Morrissey could write like that if he wanted to.

Nope, I’ve had no personal misfortunes etc. in my life that have made me cease putting Morrissey on some godlike pedestal. I just think he has become a grumpy old prick over the last decade.
So he wasn't grumpy in the Smiths? He refused to do Live Aid and slagged it off. He said the only tragedy in the Brighton hotel bombing was that the IRA failed to hit their target. Those are pretty heavy things to say. But no, of course he was all sweetness and light back then. He's always been outspoken, always skirted close to the edge. His refreshing honesty is one of his good points. The only thing that has changed is that nowadays people are more intolerant towards any views outside of the party line.

Follow the bouncing ball:

Hitler was the head of the National Socialist Workers Party. Thats socialist as in SOCIALIST. All socialists are left wing thus, a SOCIALIST PARTY is left wing, and a SOCIALIST WORKERS part even more so in the extreme. Hitler being the HEAD of this left wing SOCIALIST WORKERS party was left wing, there is no
way around it.
HITLER WAS LEFT WING!!!

No, you just want Moz to be a racist. It must be so disappointing realising he isn't.
Why, because some has-been that never was says he isn't?

And actually, no, that's not what I want. What I'd like is for Morrissey to keep his mouth shut and stop self-sabotaging himself.

“The only tragedy is Thatcher escaped unhurt”.
It is only a detail but it is not the same.

This no-mark again, using Morrissey to get a bit of attention. Moz' career hit the skids but this bloke never got started!
You are obviously still a stupid cunt James is obviously doing this as Morrissey asked him to, just like with the film . Morrissey asks all his friends to do this sort of stuff. Are simple you can't see that ?

Hitler got votes as Germany and German workers were on their knees after treaty of Versailles and 1930s depression and he aligned himself with the trade unions.
Back to Moz if he felt strongly about halal and kosher unreasonable percentage of slaughter was without sedation in Uk then write letters. He has profile, he has a platform and is articulate. It's a mighty jump to become a For Britain advocate on the back of that concern without backlash. Anne Marie will use him for political gain and it's naive for him to think he can separate himself from the core values of that party untarnished.
Sharia law is being monitored by the very people it actually affects - Muslim women are a lot more vocal and have positions of power in all sorts of professions. They don't need a non muslim like AMW to defend them. An example is there are moves for Sharia marriage to come in line with civil marriage as it's gives more protection during divorce.

We've seen this before - Moz gets his mates to ride in and attempt to change the narrative 180 degrees to what is actually happening. Saying he supports For Britain for their stance on Halal is supremely diversionary. With his history of comments, we all know why he supports For Britain. And it ain't their stance on Halal.

And yet again, this fucking bollocks about Hitler being Left Wing - DO YOUR FUCKING RESEARCH.

Why is it that racists never, ever have the balls to admit that they are? It's always something else, isn't it? There's always another reason.

This statement reeks of "James, will you put your name to this?" - he's done it before.

And it also reeks of "Please BMG, don't cancel my contract"

Finally - the history of Morrissey's comments do not tally with what is being suggested above. At the end of the day, as always, it's all about the money. It always was, and it still is now. When venues start to refuse to put him on, when his punters leave in their droves, when record shops can't shift his goods, when record companies think more than twice about making a commitment - it's all about the money, and this whole saga is beginning to hit Morrissey where it hurts - his bank balance. And getting your mates to say 'No, he's not a racist' - too late, mate, too late.
Hitler was an anti-capitalist. His party was socialist. They believed in big government. They disarmed the populace. They believed in radical identity politics.

Hitler was left-wing. He was also a puppet. Do you really think that he was in charge, ultimately? Do you really not know that both sides in World War II were funded by the same people? Look in to the Bush family, for instance. Expand your thinking.

"Do your [expletive] research!"

The world is much more complicated than the small, simplistic version of it that you confine yourself to.

And quite honestly, the radical left has a serious racist problem—for real. It's actually deeply disturbing to see the twisted loathing that comes from "progressives." Sick!

The finest dog-whistling. This is a very troubling excerpt. "There is a growing concern in some quarters that it might be". Really? Then name these 'quarters'.

Did I hit a nerve? Obnoxious plank. Most of Maker's rant about "England is Mine" was about himself, not Morrissey!

To be honest, I'd have thought James would have kept shtum and been a bit nervous commenting on a topic like this especially after the last time he 'spoke up'. IIRC, 'HMV refuse to stock LIHS' was met by HMV with: that's bollocks and promptly stocked it :)

I have no idea who you are, James Maker, but you sound like the voice of reason.

Personally, I dislike all religions. They tend to cater to the stupid, the ignorant and the feeble minded.

Halal slaughter is barbaric. Animals are suffering for some backward sandbox religion. There is no excuse.

Oh, and Islamophobia doesn’t exist. I have no irrational fear of Islam. I just happen to think it’s a tumor on the face of our planet.

Hope Not Hate is a bullshit far left propaganda movement. They think blacks and Muslims are their pets.
I’m no sorry, I am very familiar with HNH and they do a lot of grass roots stuff with communities and your description is ridiculous and holds no water. I would expect nothing less coming from you though.
