James Maker statement: "In Support Of Morrissey" - James Maker FB (1 June, 2019)

"In support of Morrissey:

The truth is, there is a hate campaign which is artificial, fabricated and does not reflect the views of real people: people who attend concerts and buy records. 'For Britain' is repeatedly described as a 'far right-wing party', when it isn't. It is run by an irish lesbian who opposes patriarchy.

People are murdered on London Bridge, or children destroyed by nail bombs at concerts, or....the list is legion....There is a very much a problem linked to extremist Islam: its 21st-century core beliefs are still affirmatively anti-feminist, anti-LGBT, and anti-democratic. This is NOT anti-Muslim; it is anti-undemocratic; anti-patriarchy; anti-religious extremism.

Morrissey was a contrarian in the 1980s and 1990s. and who saved many people's lives—as many hundreds avow—through the messages of his songs., In 2019, he is still a contrarian. Yet, in the UK, he is a hate figure whom a British newspaper is bent upon destroying.

For a person who could have given such pleasure to millions, over the years, this is very sad, indeed. x"

James' previous (much longer) statement last April was deleted from Facebook, but a copy of the text is available here and was entitled: "Is Morrissey A Racist?"

Regards,
FWD.

Yeah, was just thinking about a lot of the music that comes from the south of Northern America that I enjoy ( because as we all know ‘they’re all racist down there’) but sometimes it’s not about thinking (in that way) and it’s all about feeling, turning it up and feeling, feeling the exchange of joy with each other.

In regards to Spector... Actually I didn’t (maybe because I didn’t want to) look into it much.
And I could be wrong, but didn’t he say to the police when they arrived ‘I think I just shot someone’? please don’t quote me on that :lbf:. Damn now I have to go google it ! I’m so lazy.
He may have said "I think" but he didn't say "I know for a fact." Interpret as you will.
Okay, here we go:
Police records obtained by The Times state that after the shooting, Spector told his chauffeur, "I think I killed somebody."
Objection! Hearsay! But seriously, the chauffeur also thought Spector had blood on his hands but wasn't sure. Spector told a magazine she committed suicide.
I thought he was guilty until I saw that movie. And I know it's a movie but there was a demonstration in it which seemed pretty convincing, and which they ultimately did not use in court because it was too disturbing. But if it's based on fact there is no way he was close enough at the time the gun was fired. The movie is on Prime now and it's pretty good.

James and Morrissey have been friends for decades. It is VERY normal to voice support for a friend on ones PERSONAL facebook page.

And since he has made it public, we have the right to call him out for being an enabling asshole, or to share support.

It's hard to say. I do understand about the idea of treating him he's only there to entertain. I could only speculate on where the comments come from. Some of them seem to come from PETA. The really horrible comment about Madonna and her "African child" came a day after he met with Ingrid from PETA, and the Canadian boycott was pure PETA.
Other comments seem like they might come out of a bottle of vodka and a genuine longing for some idealized past that never was.
Still other comments seem like they might come from a wish to make the interviewer or the audience swallow their gum. He has been getting headlines for things he says since the very beginning and I think he's addicted to it.
I've said it too many times already but what makes sense to me is that he wants to be a public figure whose words shock people. A troll, though I don't mean that in a negative way. But I think he is a public figure first and then a singer. "Fame, fame, fatal fame..."
I know it's not about selling records or being the biggest draw in the world.
And speaking of Madonna, she's taking a leaf out of Morrissey's book and doing residencies in New York, Paris and The London Palladium.
I think 7 nights at The Palladium should be Morrissey's next plan.
Forget about religion and politics, both have killed enough people. Don't give them your attention or energy..
Artists and creatives need to steer clear of both.

Ha! Here comes the cavalry! Just as we've seen a hundred times before. Morrissey phones round his mates. We should all put our cups of tea down and pay close attention to ... **squints** .. 'James Maker'. He'll tell us what to think and do.

I guess as being a long term friend of Morrissey he is just doing what a friend has to do...without getting any call...
Btw - many long term fans doing the same... ;-)

I’m sure they checked, but wouldn’t there have been some kind of residue on his hand from the gun being fired, or are there types of guns that would leave no traces ?

Why exactly can someone not be anti islam? Is it compulsory to be pro islam?Let me tell you there is plenty to not like about it. Just ask some of the people who have and are trying to leave islam.
precisely. I never hear any backlash from the many people who have a problem with Christianity or Hinduism etc. They are seemingly free to say as they please (and this is the way it should be). No fatwas from The Archbishop of Canterbury.
We are basically shit scared of Islam because it’s the only religion where potentially someone will come to your house and stab you for speaking out of turn.
I reference (for example) that poor shopkeeper in Glasgow (himself a Muslim) who was killed by a taxi driver (who drove all the way from Yorkshire ) because he didn’t like the fact that he sent his customers Christmas cards. There is no place for this in any civilised society and so much of Islam goes against what it means to live in a free democracy. I just rewatched some footage from a halal slaughter house. I was disgusted. I’m a vegan and a parent of three children. I tell them the truth. I’m not racist and I’m not homophobic. So exactly where is it stated that my views are right wing?
I’m from a strong northern socialist background. I hate any form of intolerance.
I find it maddening that these things can’t be discussed in a supposed free speech society. As I said. People are (quite understandably) shit scared.

This language, from the LA Times article, is confusing.
Prosecutors said they planned to try Spector on a theory of implied malice, alleging that he acted in such an "inherently dangerous" way that he could be held responsible for the murder.

"We believe that the conduct by Mr. Spector justifies the charges we filed," said Deputy Dist. Atty. Kevin McCormick.
That doesn't sound like the way it would be described if there was really good evidence. But he appeared so strange in court and they talked about all his past creepiness, but I'm not reading about any really good evidence.

From The Guardian:
While the first trial was dominated by forensics and the finer points on how blood spatters, the rerun came down to an elaborate game of did he, didn't he, involving meditations on memory, suggestibility and English language proficiency.
It says the chauffeur who was not a native English speaker gave eight variations of the phrase, "I think I just killed someone." I am not saying he is innocent but he was convicted because it seemed more likely than not that he did it. I am surprised he is still in jail. I think that he might be the only one that knows what really happened and he was very drunk at the time.

Wow, that’s really interesting. I wouldn’t put it past him if he instigated her to shoot her self. Which might explain why he could have said ‘I think I killed..’ Strange.

you couldnt call out the number of your local dole office FFS:rolleyes:

This guy James knew Moz from way back in the game.
He's gonna give ya better insight into Moz's character then the rest of these other folks can.

Uh, I will think that you’ll find that the USA has far worse problems with “Christian” identified extremists than Europe does. The American right in general seems to be more tied into Christianity than its European counterparts.

You state “look at what is happening in Birmingham right now,” but what about what is happening in Charleston, Sutherland Springs, etc., not to mention what happened in Charlottesville? The list could go on as well. You talk about Muslim extremists but make no mention of the angry-white guy extremists that seem to be taking over the good old USA? Nobody seems to mention the fact that you are far more likely to be shot full of holes by some some white dude with an agenda, than some Muslim with a nail bomb. Coming to a school, a church, a town hall near you as well, indeed.

I've been fighting religious fundamentalism all my life - and will go on doing so to my last breath. I can handle people who think I am going to burn in hell. They don't bother me. But what scares me is people who want to chop my head off or throw me off a roof.

The fundamental problem the extreme left has, is that they are so wedded to the ideology that all immigration is 100% positive, that they end up tacitly supporting a regressive and repressive religion like Islam. You cannot stand up for women's rights and gay rights, whilst at the same time forbidding any criticism of Islam, and calling anyone who is opposed to it 'racist'. People like Morrissey will be the first to be chucked off the nearest building if (or rather when) Islam becomes the dominant religion in the UK. You only have to look at the current school protests in Birmingham to see how hard won progressive policies are in danger of being overturned by the very people championed by the extreme left. It's madness.

People must be free to criticise religion. Any other position is extremely dangerous.

Has @Uncleskinny finally unraveled? He appears to be in shambles. He spent the entire morning, starting at 6 am, posting the same rants over and over. Does he have a family? Does anybody know about his private life? Does he have anybody to check on him?
methinks that Peter doesn’t have kids ( I may be wrong).
If your kids had to grow up in a country where there was no freedom of speech, no freedom to be who you want to be, no freedom to dress the way you want to, no freedom to drink alcohol if you want to, no freedom to listen the music you love, freedom to pursue the job you love, no freedom to love the one you love....
wouldn’t you do all in your power to fight for those freedoms??
The irony is that Muslims came to this country because of the freedom to practice their religion. Which is cool by me.
But, just imagine if you decided to move to Pakistan and join a Christian Church.
The whole thing has gone wrong because (like children) some people just don’t want to share. They don’t want to see other people’s point of view. They don’t want to be friends (unless it’s conditional).
Peter would understand all this if he had/has kids.
The Smiths would never have happened in Pakistan or Iran. It’s through tolerance and diversity of culture that the magic happens.
Peter - you need to look at this a little more broadly and with a less reactive eye.
