James Bond Theme - "Home is a Question Mark"

Some of Morrissey's songs have such a Bondesque John Barry type sound to them but no one was ever going to choose Morrissey to sing a Bond theme. I've set "Home is a Question Mark" to the main titles of Spectre. I made the animation sequence black and white in honour of Morrissey's love for all things vintage. I've also added a Morrissey credit. I had to add the intro of the song to the end to fill it out because Morrissey finishes the song a bit too early. Let me know what you think before youtube removes it :)

After the upload youtube have made it slightly out of sync. Th slap of the newspaper was in sync in my original video. Might be because of the frame rate.

I like it, but I think to make it more Morrissey-esque, the title sequence ought to be Daniel Craig cavorting with artfully naked young men, rather than ladies.

That was really good! It worked much better than I thought it would have. I just wonder if this current mix of HIAQM has a “big” enough sound to fill a cinema if that makes sense. (Maybe a question for Joe C.?!)
Anyway, very nicely done and thanks for the interesting post. :)

Trouble is there's never a big enough cinema around when you need one.

No worries :)

Hahah, I was just thinking out loud really. I’m hardly an audiophile- my wife and I had a 1980s tube tv until just a few years ago.:D
You did a great job putting the video together and I love seeing Daniel Craig alongside Moz’s music...two of my favorite guys there.

Thanks.

Sam Smith's voice isn't big enough to fill a shoe box :)

iv always thought the music for MY DEAREST LOVE is true bond, especially the start.

You'll have to rely on your imagination for that. I've done all I can.

Thanks :)
Bond producers just choose who's hot at the time of production. Adele, Sam Smith of recent years. Morrissey is so far out of the circle for them it's hilarious to even think of. Even if Morrissey hot at the right time he wouldn't get a nose in. Chris Cornell is about as risky as they have been for Casino Royale. That song was fantastic.

adele, sam smith, both of them would knock me to sleep before the film even started.

A nice experiment indeed, thanks for that! The Bond producers play it indeed very safe these days. I really miss the days when bands like Duran Duran and a-ha were allowed to have a go. Adele's theme for Skyfall was alright, but the Sam Smith tune was as catchy as cement. Being a Radiohead fan, I thought their offering was very good -- if they had been willing to let someone to make it a bit more conventionally structured, it would have been a great Bond theme.

I might do My Dearest Love actually. What I liked about Home Is A Question Mark is the sweeping soundscape and the lyrics hit a lot of notes relating to the character of Bond as Morrissey is singing as James Bond. That's how I hear it anyway in this context.

I've wined and I've dined with every bogus music mogul (Bond Villain)
No sign of you (as if he's searching for an elusive character)
... pressing palms, exuding charms but never in arms.

Did you notice the line "Another film on replay" as scenes from previous Bond films appear.
Also "Wrap your legs around my face just to greet me" I tried to get close to the part where the octopus legs appear behind Blofeld.

They play it very safe alright. Adele's track had some nice Bond moments in it but she bores me to tears. A beautiful voice with nothing to say whatsoever. Sam Smith has no voice and nothing to say. What a pairing!

I'm not a Radiohead fan but I really liked their song and I agree it needed to be funnelled through the Bond machine just a touch to give it a bit more oomph.

I'm so old I can remember when Morrissey used to use the theme to 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' as his live intro music just before he came on stage (1999-2000 sort of era, I think?). Which always amused me, given how much he despises the British Royal Family.

"home is a question mark" lol! Reckon should be the long working title "I will say in an interview with a fat brit lady at the Marquis I don't live in LA anymore, so don't come to LA and hide in my trashcans weird foreigner stalkers and write a song like home is a question mark to try and confuse the weirdos. I reckon I think the title should be more realistic to Uncle Steve's life, something like "when will they get the blueberry muffins back in stock at the Calabasas Costco is a question mark?"

Yes I thought the Radiohead song was far superior.... and Johnny Greeenwood's subsequent soundtrack work would prove me right.

Anyway apart from the Adele song there hasn't been a decent Bond theme since Duran Duran or A-ha. And even they weren't a patch on the truly great ones. Most are unmemorable dirges
