Chowder like a soup.Here's a recipe:
1 large piece salt pork
1 cup water
1 large onion, chopped
8 red potatoes, skin on, diced small
4 cups clam juice
3 pounds chopped Essex clams
2 tablespoons butter
Dash salt
Freshly ground pepper
1 quart cream
Flour, to thicken

Add the salt pork and 1 cup water into pot. Simmer for about 10 minutes Add large onion chopped to the pot, let simmer for about 20 minutes until the onions are translucent. The longer you let simmer the more flavor blends. At this point add the potatoes and clam juice to the pot. The clam juice should cover the potatoes.
Cover the pot and let simmer until the potatoes become tender not mushy. Then add the clams, butter, dash of salt and fresh ground pepper. Cover pot and let simmer for 5 minutes, then turn stove off and let set the chowder sit on the stove.
Serve with fresh ground pepper and chowder crackers.

"chowder like a soup", more proof that i needed, all will be exposed soon MR SOLO! AHAHHAH!!

I like sainsburys and wish it would come to the States

Yes, but..would he drink soup out of a cup?

I think not.

Are you from England "Please" or do you prefer to remain anonymous?

Re: Pimp, as cool as you are...

I couldn't stomach anything with clams (yuck!).

Southern Corn Chowder w/ Potatoes & Bacon, however, is choice for Winter afternoons.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup diced bacon
4 medium potatoes, chopped
1/2 medium onion, chopped
2 cups water
2 1/2 to 3 cups cups cream-style corn, 2 (12 ounces each) cans or 1 pound, 4 ounce package frozen
2 teaspoons salt
pepper to taste
2 cups half-and-half or light cream, scalded

Preparation:
Sauté bacon until browned and crisp; add chopped potatoes and onions. Add water, corn, and seasonings; cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. Stir in half-and-half; heat through but do not boil.

As most people do. Not a problem and thanks for the compliments. You must try the YO sometime with the Orange Drink from Mickey D's, it's simply delightful.

Re: Batchelors cup a soup. Yanks won't know they are too posh

Actually I know what cup a soup is. Got me and just about every American undergrad through those lean years.
You are very fortunate that your husband didn't mind you cooking soup in a cup for him for dinner. My Husband is half Italian so he kinds of expects a little more. The truth of the matter is I like spending more time cooking a meal for him than just heating up water in a kettle.
