It's Poetry Darlings

james wright - the blessing

"Just off the highway to Rochester, Minnesota,
Twilight bounds softly forth on the grass.
And the eyes of those two Indian ponies
Darken with kindness.
They have come gladly out of the willows
To welcome my friend and me.
We step over the barbed wire into the pasture
Where they have been grazing all day, alone.
They ripple tensely, they can hardly contain their happiness
That we have come.
They bow shyly as wet swans. They love each other.
There is no loneliness like theirs.
At home once more,
They begin munching the young tufts of spring in the darkness.
I would like to hold the slenderer one in my arms,
For she has walked over to me
And nuzzled my left hand.
She is black and white,
Her mane falls wild on her forehead,
And the light breeze moves me to caress her long ear
That is delicate as the skin over a girl’s wrist.
Suddenly I realize
That if I stepped out of my body I would break
Into blossom."

Re: It's Poetry Darlings!!

an original I wrote. And, yes, I'm a new guy.... It's based on a Joy Division song / my experience of that song.

Isolation

What I can do for you is as nothing,
for I can only keep myself as everyone
does, though we may be the few who know
this much: this myopic attention to the self
concentrates to perfect blindness to the world,
and one’s world expands with a vicious
contraction into unworldly pain: oh mother,
shame, shame, my best amounts to shame,
and shame I am, sums and limits my self
through isolation: this pain, my self, mother,
you cannot know; you cannot know because,
though I write it, though I live before you,
though you have heard me sing, transfixed,
the word, I will keep it to myself. The pleasure
belongs to me in a perfected isolation that
gods would covet.

One of my favorite poems. I went through this phase where I'd write down the poems I liked so I could feel the words flow through my pen. I'd get obsessed with a poem. :o

that's not a bad thing! I did the same thing with Eliot's "Four Quartets" :)

Our sad old willow
Wears dresses with trains
The kindly creek catches
Her tears when it rains

Puffy-eyed green lizard
warming to a grey rock,
past the green-lined
road leads a life, grey,
and green at times, as
when, grey-green eyed
and puffy-lunged, all-
lizard, it – he, she –
ponders my green-
grey life.

i cant see you when i want to,

and i cant tell you that i love you,

anymore (youre far away from me),

i cant hold you when i want you,

i cant hear you say i love you,

anymore (youre far away from me),

my whole spent to find you just to watch you up and leave,

i simply cant believe..

..that i cant touch you when i need you,

to tell tell you that i love you,

to feel your warmth and keep you,

i cant believe

have i not seen the loveliest woman born

out of the mouth of plentys horn

because of her opinionated mind

barter that horn and every good

by quiet natures understood

for an old bellows full of angry wind?

Neal Cassady

An ego pressed onward
Like a tight skirt in the night

Popeye and Olive Oyl
Swaggering down the street
Jumping parking meters
doing exercise gyrations

Expectations surrounded him
in crowds and beach boy cronies
Tarot card sharks and wood shooters
The Fastest Gun in the West.

I showed him pictures
Of Butch and the wild bunch
"Neal, Was he your father?"
That worried orphaned-look
I'll not forget.

He lived fast, his beds, death rows
to blow genius away, like The Doors,
A race over rails from time's windowpane
sun hot on the Mexican landscape--the
Railroad tracks chromed with cocaine.

thx pixie. glad someone's reading this thread besides me hahaha

i believe moz quoted the last line - more or less - while appearing live in japan. i hope i'm right about that....

A Shropshire Lad, poem II
BY A. E. HOUSMAN
Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.

I’m a tranquilizer.
I’m effective at home.
I work in the office.
I can take exams
on the witness stand.
I mend broken cups with care.
All you have to do is take me,
let me melt beneath your tongue,
just gulp me
with a glass of water.

I know how to handle misfortune,
how to take bad news.
I can minimize injustice,
lighten up God’s absence,
or pick the widow’s veil that suits your face.
What are you waiting for—
have faith in my chemical compassion.

You’re still a young man/woman.
It’s not too late to learn how to unwind.
Who said
you have to take it on the chin?

Let me have your abyss.
I’ll cushion it with sleep.
You’ll thank me for giving you
four paws to fall on.

Sell me your soul.
There are no other takers.

There is no other devil anymore.

My secret's my enzyme.
I want to
I one two
I zwolf
Eyes wolf...

Shake your hand
Wait in the car
Drive you home
Feed you
Shower you
Fuck you
Hold you
Sleep safe not alone and not in code

I like this bit

"I know how to handle misfortune,
how to take bad news.
I can minimize injustice,
lighten up God’s absence,
or pick the widow’s veil that suits your face."

She's got the vids
She's got the pics
She's gonna take down the fat bitch
Because she's true
Because she's you
Because she's too fit and trim
Bit by a spider
Suck the venom out
Package up as Mozzy
Whore him for a stout
Just a simple glance
It surely must be love
I flew all this way
So below, as above
