Is there a Morrissey fan 'type'?

I just see it as two extremes: the devout, obsessive, overbearing Morrissey fans, and the more rational ones.

It's like Christians and Atheists really.
 
All the Mozza/Smiths fans I knew are usually the quiet thinker types who don't like being the centre of attention.

I can spot non fans a lot easier, they are the loud crass ones who believe every one wants to know there business. The sort you see in town centres late at night starting fights and throwing up.
 
I don't think there is ... there are certainly people who love Morrissey who's taste in music apart from him sticks to the same sort of genre ... your Cure's, Lloyd Cole's and such ... but on the other hand I know there are people like myself. I've held Morrissey as my favorite artist since I was about 4-5 singing his songs (with all the incorrect lyrics I'm told). But along side him my other favorite bands would be Ween, Rammstein and Live ... 3 bands that do not fit the Morrissey mould in any way shape or form.

Well I'm an oddity then, as I'm somewhere inbetween. I don't think anyone who knows me well would ever call me rational in my dedication to Morrissey (or anything else for that matter :D), but I'm not stupidly fixated either. :p

Well.... I'm a massive Glenn Danzig fan :blushing:

Thinking person with questing mind, I'd say. If you look around you at his gig you'll see all different types.
 
I hope and think most of his fans are reasonably bright and hopefully "think for themselfs", a term I hate but still it applies well.

Other than that I like to entertain the thought that we are all very different. Class, political colour, occupation differs, but Moz brings us together. At least that's what I hope!

As far as music goes I don't really like "indie"/alternative at all with a few exceptions.

I'm into blues, some jazz and pretty heavy rock. Typical guitarplayer music stuff! :guitar:

Hopefully we're all very different.
 
i don't think there can be categorised that easily,i am a fan of many forms of music from rockabilly to metal,to me its all good music,i saw morrissey seven times since may and met lovely people literally from 10(omagh) to 65(swindon)and i think cover the whole social spectrum which is the whole point,isn't it?
 
i think alot of Morrissey fans try and be like Morrissey

and most people think the stereotypical Morrissey fan is alone and depressed

I think Smiths fans might have started off as 'idealist socialist vegans' in the 80's with a hatred of Thatcher/Reagan and a desire to set the world free through music, poetry, a love of camp and rights based politics (rights that obviously extended to non-human animals).

Morrissey's music and personal comments spoke clearly and loudly, saying the things one would want to say but couldn't due to paralytic shyness. I always had the feeling he was speaking for me!

That was .... bloody hell, 25 years ago.. and i think fans have probably changed since then... - but not me! I still love him mainly because he is a semi-militant and unrepentant vegetarian (like me), and i still think we can educate others surreptitiously through great music and political stances (spoken like a true student! tee hee).

I still love his camp humour and unavailable-availability tease (which only multiplies desirability)... and the tunes keep getting better and more intense and the lyrics more self reflective!!

I think my musical taste has changed but grown with him... where i used to listen to The Smiths alongside Mary Chain, Japan, The Cult, Bunnymen, Bauhaus and Banshees, i now listen to Morrissey alongside Lord Cut-Glass, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, The God Machine and Suede. I think i'm probably typical of some of the 36-40 year old fans (not that i'm admitting that i fall into that age bracket)

I always though Morrissey was more than just music - he is a way of life. I love him!!

Okay, I'll play. I would guess that most Morrissey fans are introverts who feel misunderstood (at least sometimes) by their families/their peers/the world. They're not overly concerned about what other people think of them, so they just do their own thing w/out much drama. They're not necessarily shy, they're just not attention-whores.

I would imagine that people who really love Morrissey's lyrics are sensitive to their surroundings and prefer to think before acting rather than the other way around.

Or, I could be totally wrong about everything above. Who knows? I'm certainly not basing this on the behavior of many Moz concert attendees, especially recently. It's just more of a gut-feeling response. :straightface:

What I love is that they are nothing like me...and nothing like anyone else... True To Yourself.

That's what I define and love about a true Morrissey fan.
