Is British radio boycotting the new Morrissey album?

Well Radio 2 have announced their playlist for the first week of March and no sign of Knockabout World despite it probably having his catchiest, most radio-friendly chorus for years. A decision must have been made to ignore any new songs he put out. No sane person can claim that Jacky's Only Happy is better than the three new songs, and Jacky was added to the playlist on its release.
He urged everyone to vote for a far-right party in April 2018 nearly two years ago towards the end of the Low in High School 'campaign'. Radio 2 were still happy to A-list his California Son single which came 6 months later, but perhaps people were still in disbelief back then that he was advocating far-right extremism. Be interesting to see how having literally zero airplay in the UK affects sales (even if the reviews stay positive). It's never happened to him before.

Sadly it's probably an age thing as well. How many artists of Morrissey's age get their new singles playlisted on the UK's most listened to radio station?

Not really true - as I explained, Morrissey had singles A-listed as recently as a year ago on Radio 2. They're a very un-ageist radio station. They A-listed the recent Pet Shop Boys single (who are older than Morrissey) and they A-list plenty of other people from the same 1980s generation, even rubbish like Deacon Blue. There were four UK stations (R2, R6, Rx and Absolute) that would reliably play his new singles, right up to Low in High School, and now not a single play from any of them. Unprecedented.

bobby was far too long for any radio station to play.bmg obviously aren't pushing it because the deal is coming to an end.
Yeah I didn’t realise until recently that record companies pay radio stations to play their artists records. So that probably makes sense.

The BBC don't take money from record companies and Radio 2 has always been the biggest supporter for Morrissey. BMG make their money from album sales so they will want Dog on a String to sell well. They're not going to waste any money on posters (as they know Steve's image and name are toxic) but they would love to have his song played on the radio because that is the fuel that sells albums (yes, even in this day and age)

Has anything been properly released as a single? Are they pushing for airplay? He doesn't seem to be doing any media. Might want this phase over & done with fast & move on.

This phase? Meaning an album that has cost the record company a small fortune to make (just look at the list of composers and musicians) to sink without trace and sell bugger all? Whose interest would that serve?
He hasn't done any media for any recent albums except the odd hugely disastrous interview (Der Spiegel). Rolling Stone wanted to interview him last year but insisted on asking about his politics which he refused to talk about so it didn't happen. He's become super-toxic (in the UK) so it's unlikely that any substantial media opportunities have even been offered.

Don’t be silly. Everyone wants to interview Moz. It’s just that he’s stubborn and won’t give in. And there is no point for BMG to promote an album if the artist refuses to cooperate. We’ve seen this pattern over and over again during Morrissey’s career.
For LIHS he did a lot of promotion, BBC and Arte exclusive shows, French television even. But now he has decided to do nothing and let the music do the talking and BMG have no choice but to do likewise.

He wouldn't have a problem getting booked. But I think he's had enough of people getting mad at him.

Get the impression you're not really aware of how things have changed in the last 18 months.
Morrissey's manager invited a black journalist to join the tour last autumn to get to know what M was really like. The journalist contacted every publication he knew to offer them the story, and only one was vaguely interested.
Everything has changed beyond belief. Radio stations have lost interest, the media has lost interest, half the UK fan-base has disappeared. It's a real shame as this new album sounds like one of his better ones. He needs to retract his official support for a far-right political group, or else that's probably it for him (in the UK at least).

not even a lyric video from morrissey central which would cost nothing. Seems deliberate

You don't get ignored by the media for being controversial. They want you more if you're controversial.

It's his decision not to do anything.

This reminds me of Gary Glitter and the article:

"If an artist has done unforgivable things in their private life, can you still let the music speak for itself?"

But then Morrissey would probably excuse the actions of Glitter. After all, those children (to paraphrase Morrissey), must have known what was expected of them.

He is shit-scared of doing any interviews because he's seeing his reputation and his fanbase evaporate in his home country. He knows that his political views are ludicrously wobbly, and any half decent journalist will expose this without any difficulty. Rolling Stone offered an interview, he said yes but no political questions, they said, sorry in that case no interview. The media is now calling the shots.

That's ridiculous. He questioned the circumstances. Which is what everyone does when they hear about a scandal.

There's a couple of Morrissey haters (or just the one, you never know) currently in denial about a similar situation, so Solo holding that against him is delusional.
Yeah, holding his own words against him is delusional. Morrissey excused Spacey's alleged abuse of a 14 year old boy. He excused it! If you deny that then you are delusional. He excused the sexual violence of the now convicted Weinstein. He excused it! If you deny that then you are delusional.

Victims of sexual violence are not vox pops. They are not points to be scored by some self-aggrandising pop singer.

Your delusional comment is a slur on victims if sexual violence and those that support them. Shame on you!

Morrissey's manager: Hello, is that Rolling Stone? Oh good. I was wondering if you had any black journalists...

It doesn't take much imagination though. Some sychophant wannabee writer like that blogger who he got to do the sleeve notes for that compilation LP. Heavily coached, produces a pile of badly-written ass-licking crap, less about Morrissey, more about his detractors. No-one's interested, because it's junk. Not because no-one wants a proper interview with Morrissey, though.
