"International Mope Fest" Moz & Jaguares on NPR

I just driving home and I tuned into NPR and about 10 to 5:00, and they had a big report on the Morrissey/Jaguares concert! The drummer for Jaguares said his band and Morrissey share passion common. The host discussed the possible similarities of the bands, and the possible artistic and business rationales for the pairing. He mentioned how this was being heavily discussed on the Internet, and quoted a few postings by fans on web sites. Not sure if it was from this site, but they mentioned one fan as saying this is as bad as if Morrissey teamed with Menudo. And he mentioned some more positive views. Then he played audio sound bites from fans, including Mexican-Americans who were already into both Moz and the Jaguares and are stoked.

"Girlfriend in a Coma" came on, as a girl talked about that song and how its lyrics are so different than everything else on the radio. Lets see, what else? Another Jaguares member(possibly the singer) said it's an experiment, and it may or may not work, but they find the idea interesting, and its about exposing both Moz and the Jaugaures to new people. They hope people come with open minds, basically, but understand some might not be down and that's okay. Some Jaguares music was then played, and the host wondered if maybe this will show people that Mexican angst and Anglo angst have some things in common, and then he jokingly wondered if perhaps it'll just turn out to be one big international mope fest.

Well, anyway, there's my report about a most pleasant radio surprise. Anyone else hear it? The host seemed to have a clue about Morrissey's music. And um, yeah I pretty much envy whoever's going to that show! Have fun!
