It ranges from a lot of 1960s bands. 1970s music, and Indie music of the 1990s/2000s. Not much 1980s music is played! the only 1980s music that is played is a bit of New Order "Blue Monday" ect.. and The Smiths. And the brilliant sexy Eco and the Bunnymen doing "The Cutter".
The sort of things you might hear:
1960s Mod-ish British Invasion bands: The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Beatles(sometimes), The Kinks(maybe) ect.. you get the picture! New York's art-rock-ish experimental band The Velvet Underground(with Nico who was German and John Cale who was Welsh)Andy Warhole liked them, and maybe a bit of Northern Soul like Marlena Shaw's wonderful "California Soul"!
1970s: Thin Lizzy's "The Boys are Back in Town", Rod Stewart(a Mod who was in The Faces) "Stay with Me", "Fame" by David Bowie/John Lennon/Carlos Alomar, sometimes there is a bit of Funk music which is nice! Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" always goes down well for some great late 1970s music! Not heard any Reggae music which is a shame!! The Clash's "London Calling" which came out in 1979! and maybe something from Iggy Pop's "Raw Power" album? and The Jam's classic "Going Underground" which came out in about 1979!
1980s: As I said not much from this era!! A little Smiths or New Order "Blue Monday" type stuff(which goes along with 1980s/1990s style Dance music which is sometimes played), The Clash again which is a cross over 1970s/1980s band with "Rock The Casbah", Eco and the Bunnymen's brilliant "The Cutter". The Stone Roses(1984-1996) are also played but I think of them as more of an early 1990s band. No Hip-hop or Rap music which is a shame! and The La's "There She Goes" which came out as early as 1988!
1990s: Yes it is all the Indie/Brit pop stuff Oasis, Blur, Pulp. The Stone Roses "I Am The Resurrection" type stuff which fall between the 1980s and 1990s. Maybe a bit of The Charlatans. Maybe even a bit of Dance music. A bit of Grunge from Hole's "Celebrity Skin".
2000s: Modern indie music: The Strokes, Jet "Are you gonna be my Girl", The Zutons, The Hives, The Vines type stuff. The stuff the NME seem to love!! and a bit of RnB from Christina Agulera "Genie in a Bottle".
And that is about it! I have a huge music collection so I own most of the music Andy Rourke plays!! Having said that you do get a kind of atmospher in a club!!
Your sure to have a good time!! Andy Rourke does loads of requests!! Just drink vodka and cranberry juice and dance and enjoy yourself!!
Stuff Andy doesn't seem to play: Heavy metal/heavy rock, not much Grunge(apart from Hole) Skater Punk/Nu Metal/Thrash metal, Reggae music, some forms of Dance music, Jazz, Classical music, Gothic music, Folk and folk/rock, prog rock, Hip-hop/Rap music, The Blues, Country music, 1950s RocknRoll.... oh I could go on but it is very boring! Andy also don't play much female music!! Apart from Hole/Counrtney Love, Marlena Shaw and Chistina Agurlera.
Andy Rourke is a bit of a Mod!!!!! but likes MADchester, indie music too. Andy Rourke likes to chill out to Elton John's more mellow recordings!! Andy maybe don't listen to some of the singer/songwritters he used to like, like Neil Young or Joni Mitchell. I know Andy Rourke likes loads of styles of music!! like I do!!
(The camp/elton john style Sizzor Sisters and 1970s Roxy Music are probably more Mike Joyce's thing? Mike Joyce is also a real Punk rock fan)
