I have just listened to the new album and it is quite a departure

It is different and I read a review somewhere that said it was like "Southpaw Grammar" and I understand that comparison. The production is stunning, however, unlike "Southpaw" which is muddy in comparison. This is sharp and focused.
Morrissey's voice is sublime but the melodies seem a little forced and the lyrics a bit patchy. He seems like he is trying to do something different which is to be applauded. But all these damned infernal eternal internal rhymes are a little cumbersome.
"Kick The Bride Down The Aisle" is the standout for me on first listen and "Smiler With Knife' is not an easy track which may not be a bad thing and sometimes the ones that are not so on first listen become favourites.
The "singles" released are the strongest tracks mostly though "Staircase.." has a lovely melody and some of his trilling and yodelling is his best ever. The end of "Neal Cassady..." is truly great.

I forgive you, I forgive you.....always I do forgive you.
