Who does then? We need a scapegoat
I find it hard to accept that Morrissey can endorse the scrappy mess that is Morrissey Central when he used to be so meticulous about cover art and presentation (see Peepholism for the evidence of that). When did this change? Things seemed to start slipping with the original Maladjusted sleeve.

I feel a lot of us struggle with a kind of cognitive dissonance between the Morrissey we originally fell for and Morrissey as he is now.

But I guess that’s our problem more than it his.

Has the world changed?
Has he changed?
Have we changed?

I couldn't agree more with your comment. He had a very strong visual stamp on his work, which was his cover sleeves, and symbolism like the hearing aid - it was a unique package. He still has kept that trademark, if a well framed filmstill with type is used on an album cover it immediately says The Smiths, doesn't matter what band it may be. But I am guessing after you reach a certain age things start to change.

I think it started with the original Southpaw sleeve actually.

I dunno, the very first Smiths single just had some bloke's arse on it, so it kind of started from day dot.
