How many REAL fans does Morrissey have? About 100,000?

It's nice that "You Are The Quarry" has sold a million copies worldwide. I don't know if that's really one million people, since many people bought multiple editions of the album. But lets just say somewhere between 800,000 and one million individuals bought the album.

Most of those people are not real Morrissey fans.

Real Morrissey fans were the ones who bought "Maladjusted" even though Morrissey did not saturate the media to sell it, and even though the spin in that media was that he was on a downward spiral. The real fan was there when the chips were down.

I believe "Maladjusted" sold about 100,000 worldwide. It's safe to say that since 1997 new people discovered Morrissey and became real fans, but it's also safe to say some abandoned him. Whatever the case, the real fan is with Morrissey when it's "uncool" to be with Morrissey, when the chips are down.

This 100,000 real fans figure is also backed up by the first week sales of "You Are The Quarry." The real fan was eagerly awaiting the release date and was at the store on the day it came out. There were 56,000 such Americans, and 75,000 in England. Don't have the figures on other countries. But if you factor in that many of these people bought more than one copy, and a few of these people were just jumping on the media hype surrounding Morrissey, it's probably about 100,000 real fans worldwide.

I don't have a point in all this. I'm happy Morrissey has hundreds of thousands of casual and fickle listeners, but it's the 100,000 of us who are there through thick and thin who are the true fans.

when you eliminate BG's and Ian's aliases, it's more like 75,000

100.000 fans?

surely he must have more fans than that .

The point you are not making seems rather elitist to me. What does it matter if you became a fan in '83 or '05, we all had/have to start somewhere?

I said that surely he has acquired more real fans since 1997. And I'm sure he'll have many more in the future who aren't even born yet. Perhaps a few were concieved last night by couples playing "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" while f***ing on Valentines Day.

I'm just saying, it's about 100,000 who have kept him going, who have had his back, and who helped make his new record deal possible. He should have a free concert where, to get in, you have to bring a vinyl edition of "Maladjusted."

youre talking about the killers right? he cramps moz's style on the hardcore with that last move.

Didn't have to. But I did buy the only one in the shop EVEN THOUGH it was damaged.

Wasn't being elitist. Anyone can be a real fan. Just was wondering how many there are.

You don't think Hillary Duff would've name-dropped Morrissey if this were 1997, do ya?

who's Hillary Duff?

& try & just responding once otherwise you make yourself look like a thicko posting 3 replies one after another.

Listening to Southpaw is a pleasure, not a chore.

Indeed, I had to replace my scratched overplayed CD last year.

it's truly laughable...

care to explain that one in three or more posts thicko?
Do I hold a gun to anyones head & say I'm going to exploit you OR is it freedom of choice?
