"His hands are tied" ....and other such avoidances

Actually, when I bought tickets to see Morrissey last year, I thought that they were very reasonably priced, considering what I got--close seats at small venues (the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan and the Star Plaza in Merrillville, respectively). The sound at the Genesee and the view at the Star Plaza simply could not be beat. I got much more than my money's worth.

Think of all of the musical acts out there that charge out the wazoo for nosebleed seats at huge venues like the United Center (which is, for those not familiar with the Chicago area, where the Bulls play basketball). Also think of all of the acts that charge out the wazoo for small, intimate gigs like the ones Morrissey regularly plays.

And, unfortunately, for some acts, like Pearl Jam, the fan club system works, oftentimes, it fails miserably. Remember not too long ago, with the Hannah Montana fan club debacle? Soccer moms were practically out rioting in the streets over that one.

Perhaps I saw you in Waukegan and Merrillville? The Genessee Theater had such a leapable stage...more like a walk-onto stage...I'm still kicking myself for not making the attempt! My track record shows I prefer a challange. It's a decent place, too bad it's in the middle of nowheresland and too far (for me ) to drive. If Moz ever played the United Center (as if), I would boycott!! ah who am I kidding, I'd be there.

What about people that buy season tickets to sports teams? Are they selfish too?

This isn't socialism. If it were, everyone would get one Morrissey ticket and everyone would also get one Brittany Spears ticket and if you didn't use them both you'd lose your ticket privs forever.

Hopefully, next time, I will pluck up the courage to meet you fine folk before and/or after the show. Hopefully, next time, my boyfriend will be with me, so it'll be a bit easier to meet some new people (well, meet them in the flesh).

In Waukegan, I was on the extreme right-hand side of the auditorium, as you were facing the stage. In Merrillville, I was almost dead-center, in the last row of seats before the "inner circle". At neither show was I really close to the stage, though I was thrilled, in both cases!

He announced around 40 dates in the UK in 2006. All announced at the same time. They were still sold out quickly and we still had the problem with touts. I think people just need to face up to the fact that it's nothing specifically to do with Morrissey, all popular acts have the same problem.

We win some and we lose some. Some of us get tickets. Some of us have to pay lots more to get one. I was upset I had to pay tons more for tickets in Manchester. But whatever. I've gotten to go to great Moz shows...Hollywood Bowl, Chicago, all those nights in NYC...anyway...

And as far as Morrissey's singles and songs and compilations. Well, the truth is that you don't really need to buy all that stuff. I realize that a lot of you are completists. I used to be, too. But there are too many things and too little money. I'd rather spend the money on the gigs and perhaps get that rare song or single from here or there, whenever I can.

It's tough not to feel slighted. But I guess I've always been more a 'larger picture' sort of person. The man is 50. Still touring. Still putting out new material. He loves doing this and we should enjoy that.

@dead end kid-as you got tickets for both nights and friends of yours who are "loyal as you" didn't get any,then be a friend and give them some of yours.i know my friends wouldn't see me sit at home when they had surplus.
i agree with you about ticket distribution on the whole.the internet has killed the the atmosphere in concerts in the last few years.not so long ago when you had to physically go to a shop and get tickets,sometimes that meant staying outside a shop door all night in the freezing rain,thats when you got real fans and real atmosphere at gigs.these days people/touts just sit at home and just snap up tickets with credit card after credit card,leaving dedicated fans with a bad taste in their mouth.

I think it's never easy to be a fan. It's natural that bands have places they tour more and other places they dont tour so often. It can get frustrating and I can see the point cos I had other bands I dearly love cancel on me for the most ridiculous reasons but that's how it is when you are a fan. And when you dont live in the UK or the US it's even harder depending on where the band is from. I dont like it either that the ticket prices are going up on every tour and the Moz tickets are the most expensive ones I ever bought but it's up to everyone if they want/ can spend their money on this. But there's not so much Morrissey himself can do about it.

Oh wait - he can get every member on Solo a free ticket just because we still love him after all? Right?

U2 in manchester was £70, macca at Anfield £75.....U2 where a rip off, what was I thinking.
macca played for 2 hours with support for the kaiser chiefs, the zutons so he was worth it. morrissey is cheap by comparison.

as far as announcing shows late, anyone else have a sneaking suspicion that he'll squeeze in some west coast/Cali shows in Feb?

Jan is too late even for him but album release is Feb 17, first show Feb 28 in Florida...i wouldn't be surprised.
