my family live in new york (i live nr manchester in the uk) and last year i went over for a wedding, and they were going to the "jersey shore" the following week. now i know what i missed - is the jersey shore an extension of long island?

Long Island jets out into the Atlantic east of Brooklyn and Staten Island. The Jersey shore is West and South of Long Island.
